Experiment No. 592

This is my seventh Red Hat Society experiment. I think I’m getting the hang of combining red and purple. Or else I’ve just numbed myself to the clash of colors.

Poncho, Newport News. Turtleneck sweater, Charlotte Russe. Skirt, Express (thrifted). Belt as a necklace, thrifted. Black fishnets, Simply Vera. Purple tights, We Love Colors. Shoes, Isaac Mizrahi for Target. Bag, Vieta.

When I started this blog, I did not intend to avoid repeating an outfit. The pursuit of daily outfit novelty evolved as I challenged myself to explore all the possibilities within my closet. Today’s outfit borders on a repeat. I’m wearing the same sweater, skirt, and (purple) tights as in the last Red Hat Society experiment:

Despite the fact that the major pieces (and color scheme) are the same in each outfit, the use of accessories makes the ensembles seem totally different.

  1. You inspired me to try a "red hat lady" outfit a few weeks ago!(You can check it out at schoolmarmstyle.blogspot.com- "I love my comfy sweater")

This version looks great together. I love the purple tights!

  2. I love that necklace!
I also like the creativity of wearing two pairs of tights at the same time, they look good together.

  7. I love this outfit. I have really enjoyed your Red-Had Society experiments. I think that they work the best when the red and purple don't actually touch (like in this outfit)

  8. I don't think red and purple clash at all - purple is made by combining red and blue, after all.

I have a Red Hat Society hat - I've never worn it on the blog, but I feel fabulous in it.

I LOVE this outfit on you - that houndstooth skirt makes me want to wear mine.

  17. I love the belt as a necklace!

I really like purple with a splash of red- it's a ton of fun and not at all red-hat-lady-ish imo.

both of your outfits are so pretty here! i like the red and purple combo. and even though those 2 outfits have many of the same elements, i think the finished look is totally different. that's one thing i love seeing on a blog- how to re-wear clothes and keep the look fresh. ~joelle

  20. since yours was the first fashion blog i stumbled across + in my mind a "blame" you for this new addiction that i have, i thought youd like to know that i have started up my own little blog. only one post so far, but as i get things rolling, id appreciate any feedback you care to provide.

onto your outfit, i agree that it has a very different feel from the previous one, despite using the same core pieces. the devil really is in the details, and i think you are a master of the details. :)

  21. I love how this outfit came together. It's amazing how just moving the red from the shoes to the top made such a big difference.

  22. I like this better than the past one. I think it's because the red and purple aren't touching.
