Fighting with Myself

I reached for a safe blouse and skirt combination this morning. It bored me to tears, so I added a denim vest and, later, a hat.

Hat, Charlotte Russe. Vest, Urban Vibe. Blouse, Mossimo. Skirt, Worthington (thrifted). Shoes, Linea Paolo. Cuff, Pangaea. Bag, Franco Sarto.

Sometimes I think I’m trying too hard to be interesting. Should I have left the outfit alone* or was the vest a good addition?

*I certainly would have won a camisole underneath if I hadn’t had the vest over the blouse.

I like this outfit better...
without the vest with the vest

  1. The vest makes this!

  2. I don't that that "safe" has to mean "blah". In this case I prefer the outfit with the vest but not because the original was boring. I think you just needed something to break up all that yellow. An interesting necklace might have worked just as well.

  3. I like it better with the vest, simply for it breaking up all the warm, lighter colours with something dark.

  4. Soooo much better with the vest! Once again, I love how you inspire me to toss the "safe" choices and add a little fun to my wardrobe...thanks, as always!

  5. Better with the vest. As she said, it makes the colors more interesting.

I voted 'with the vest' but I agree with Rivkah - I think you just needed something to break up all the yellow and a necklace would have done the job. But once again, you picked something I never would have thought of showing your creative side. :-)

  7. I'm all about interesting, so I voted for the vest. Layers add depth and interest, so I think it was the right way to go.

    Love the cuff, too.

  10. This is funny how you thought it was "missing" something.
The version without the jacket reminds me of your first posts... and the latter of your most recent attire where you accessorize more, mix more and wear more pieces :)

  11. It looks like I am odd man out, b/c while I liked it with the vest, I liked it better without.

  12. Yes yes yes to the vest, but wish you'd toughened your shoe a bit to balance the vest--maybe with your Dan Posts or a flat boot. Love the contrast between dainty elements and the earthier ones.

  13. The vest was definitely a good choice...I love how the toughness of the hardware balances out the softness of the rest of your outfit. The hat is also fun (I like how the ribbon matches your shirt). But the vest gets a double thumbs up!

  14. This is just a personal preference, but I absolutely hate the "tucked-in" look. I just can't wear shirts tucked in to skirts or pants without something over them that's not tucked in. So I obviously like the vest more for that reason. (But like I said, that's just me.) I also like the color it adds. I think the outfit is incredibly cute. With different shoes it might be one of my favorites.

  15. Certainly great with vest but I hope you can give it a try off the vest but with a wide waist belt instead.

    Thanks!

  16. I too have this "problem" a lot lately. I feel the need to pump up my outfit to make them more blogworthy. A trick I am using is to think of Christina,( Second Skin) and remember that simple can also be interesting. I love the vest and I think you look great no matter what. I dare ya to wear a garbage bag, belted of course!, and I bet you get tons of compliments :) When ya got it, ya got it! P.S. I have that skirt in brown and another color I can't remember as well. Still has the tag on it (i paid 1.77 new during clx.time!)
