April Purchases

I only waited until April 3rd to go to Target and spend my month’s budget.

Target

1. Mossimo crossbody bag, $23.99
2. Mossimo dress, $17.99
3. Target for Tucker dress, $39.99
4. Leather cuff, $14.99

St. Vincent de Paul

My allowance was gone after the Target spree, but I’m always able to justify spending just a little more at the thrift store.

5. Eddie Bauer dress, $2.24
6. I.N.C. floral skirt, $4.49
7. Leslie Faye skirt, $0.99
8. Express lace vest, $3.37
9. Life Strides sandals (not pictured), $4.00

April total: $112.05

Total spending for the year: $403.97

Frye boots fund: -$3.97. Not looking good.

End of the Line

I wasn’t sure whether to post this outfit for Friday or Saturday. I put it on at 7 a.m. PST Friday in Seattle and wore it until 11 a.m. EST Saturday in Cincinnati.

Jacket, Allen B. Vest, Express (thrifted). Dress, Tucker for Target. Tights, We Love Colors. Shoes, Nine West. Earrings, Ali’s Boutique. Bag, Vieta. Sunnies, Betsey Johnson.

I’m impressed with an outfit that can be comfortably worn for over 24 hours and across 2000 miles. (I did remove the belt for the red-eye flight.) It also accommodated the consumption of ramen, microbrews, Moroccan food, and a diner breakfast.

Midi Scarf Skirt

I’ve also caught the accordion-pleated, midi-skirt bug. Unfortunately, I failed to find such a skirt while thrifting last week. I contented myself with this (non-pleated) midi skirt for 99 cents.

Jacket, Allen B. Skirt, Leslie Faye (thrifted). Necklace, made from thrifted arrowhead pendants and a tassel from Epcot Morocco. Watch, Vivani (gift). Shoes, Nine West. Bag, Vieta.

I love how the pattern creates the appearance of two large, square (and loud) scarves, sewn together. (With perhaps an oblong scarf in the same pattern sewn around the hem.) You can’t shorten a skirt like this without destroying the effect, so I’m trying out the midi-length.

Sheila, I’m not wearing my new-to-me skirt in Iceland or Hawaii. I’m in this city:

I was living south of here when one of the local mountains blew its top a few decades ago.

Tore Nay Doe

I don’t like posting photos of myself with my eyes closed, but when you’re taking pictures in a tornado, you have to lower your expectations.

Jacket, Allen B. Dress, Delia*s (swap). Shoes, Nine West. Bag, Vieta. Earrings, gift. Watch, Vivani (gift).

An hour after taking these shots at the airport viewing area, we were evacuated from Terminal B to the tunnel below the tarmac due to a tornado warning.

The evacuation was a mess…it seems that everyone ahead of me had ridden the escalator down, taken 10 steps, and set up camp. As the last of the evacuees exited the escalator, there was no place for them to go without a lot of shoving. If a tornado had actually hit the terminal, there would have been panic and trampling.

Thankfully, the weather allowed us to return to the terminal after only 20 minutes underground and most of the flights left with only a small delay. I’ve safely escaped the land of tornadoes for the land of volcanoes.

Blending

I seem to have a knack for choosing backgrounds that coordinate with my outfit. We headed to the library’s Reading Garden for pictures because it was convenient and it is partially covered (in case of rain). I unintentionally found myself blending into the flora. You can spot me by looking for the bright red shoes.

Jacket, Charlotte Russe (overdyed). Dress, Mossimo. Shoes, New York & Co. Earrings, Julie’s Inspiration. Brooch, thrifted. Cuff, Target. Watch, Raymond Weil. Bag, Franco Sarto.

Buns and Bows

My hair is finally long enough to start wearing the messy* side bun again. At this length, it’s messier than ever as too-short strands revolt from bun-dom over the course of the day.

Skirt, I.N.C. (thrifted). Shirt, Merona (thrifted). Shoes, Mossimo. Earrings, Target. Cream bangle, Forever 21. Woven bangle, Garden of the Gods gift shop.

In other news, I thrifted this skirt on Good Friday. I was pleased to find that the self belt (featuring an adorable bow!) still accompanied the garment. Adorable bow belts aside, I wasn’t sure if I was going to purchase it until I discovered the skirt also had pockets…still sewn shut from the factory! The skirt might be second-hand, but these pockets are virgin. (And have I mentioned that the bow at the waist is a-dor-able?)

*I’ve received no end of youtube comments claiming my description of this bun as “messy” is deceptive. I suppose “messy” is a relative term. To a neat freak accustomed to ballet-tight buns, this is sloppy. To a teen in the habit of wearing pajama pants and flip flops out to dinner, it’s probably uptight.

Dark Chocolate

I wasn’t always a dark chocolate fan. I think the less sweet treat is something you have to grow to appreciate, like coffee and red wine. Funny that it pairs so well with both.

Dress, Eddie Bauer (thrifted). Belt, thrifted. Tights, Apostrophe. Boots, Dan Post. Cuff, Epcot Canada. Ring, Jan Michaels San Francisco. Bag, Mossimo. Coat (below), Laundry by Shelli Segal.

I suppose a traditional Easter Sunday outfit would feature pastels, ruffles, and bows. Instead, I chose a pared down silhouette in brown and black, to match my favorite Easter treats: dark chocolate covered Peeps, Papa’s eggs with any filling and a dark chocolate shell, and solid, dark chocolate bunnies.

@whatiwore2day

I think my smartphone is my favorite purchase ever. I have major withdrawals when I forget it for the day. (It spent Thursday in Beefy’s trunk and I was going bonkers by late afternoon.)

Hoodie, Old Navy (thrifted and I cut off the cuffs and rolled the sleeves). Tee, Forever 21. Checked tunic, Wet Seal. Peggings, Bongo. Boots, Dan Post. Bag, Mossimo. Earrings, Julie’s Inspiration.

Some of my favorite phone features are blogging related. I love the mobile version of Google Reader and being able to respond to your comments in a timely manner. Best of all, the fancy phone makes twittering fun! I feel so much more connected to the blogosphere.

Reunited with my phone-o and it feels so good!
