September Purchases

I’m going to have to do better coming up with a realistic budget for next year. 2013’s budget didn’t cut it.

Consignz

Ah, Consignz. You had me at “hello.” And then, “welcome back.” And, “it’s nice to see you again.”

1. Donna Morgan red eyelet faux-wrap dress, $26.00.
2. Frangi orange scarf, $26.00.
3. Tahari cut-out sling-back oxfords, $26.00

Rain’s Embellishments

I found Lorrain at the Good Market and exclaimed over her charming Day of the Dead creations.

4. Sugar skull earrings, $26.00

Heart Boutique

One of the Byuti stylists had her eye on this necklace, but I snagged it first! (You can borrow it, Yoli.)

5. Rhinestone fan necklace, $27.

J Crew

I’m not sure if denim skirts are “in” or “out,” but I’ve been looking for a replacement for the one I bought in 1999. Fourteen years later, here it is:

6. Winnie Dot Skirt, $20.98.

Brown Trout Gallery

If you’re ever in Dunsmuir, you must visit this shop, if only to see the window in the floor that shows “the best water on earth” rushing through an underground stream!

7. Native American beaded necklace, $18.00

September total: $169.98

Total spending for the year: $1615.61

Remaining 2013 budget: -$175.61.

Va-Va-Velvet

'Tis the season to bring back this velvet skirt! It’s a pattern mixing favorite. I like it best with leopard.

Shirt, INC (thrifted). Skirt, Herman Geist (thrifted and shortened). Shoes, Tahari (consignment). Sunglasses, Target. Necklace, Heart. Bag, Charming Charlie

Leopard and this skirt is always va-va-voom!

Dunsmuir

The first fact I learned about Dunsmuir, California, is that it has the “best water on Earth.” I can verify that the water is amazing. And since water is my favorite drink, I’m somewhat of an expert on the subject.

Sweatshirt, Old Navy (thrifted). Shirt, American Eagle (thrifted). Short, Arizona (thrifted). Leggings, Danskin. Boots, Madden Girl. Necklace, Brown Trout Vintage. Bag, thrifted.

B&B

I can’t believe I was lucky enough to be invited to stay at a friend’s bed and breakfast in the foothills of Mt Shasta. The storybook home is all stained glass, antiques, and gingerbread trim. This is just of the property’s adorable nooks.

Shirt, Express (thrifted). Skirt, thrifted, shortened, and embellished. Boots, Madden Girl. Earrings, Julie’s Closet. Bag, thrift.

Summer Color Fall Layer

I love this in-between season when I can wear both the best of summer and the best of fall.

Regretsy

I miss Regretsy. I never tired of seeing hand-made crafts gone wrong (with the accompanying snark). I stole this skirt from a theater costume shop (instead of purchasing from Etsy), but it would have easily fit into Regretsy’s “whimsicle fuckery” collection.

Shirt, Merona (thrifted). Skirt, Herman Geist (thrifted and shortened). Shoes, Lela Rose for Payless. Earrings, Claire’s. Belt, Express. Bag, Charming Charlie

Leopard and Lace

I don’t think leopard print or black lace ever goes out of style. Studded bags and rhinestone faux-collar necklaces might, though.

Shirt, Newport News. Skirt, Body by Victoria. Shoes, Guess. Sunglasses, Target. Necklace, Heart Boutique. Bag, Charming Charlie.

Maverique

Beefy said this is his favorite mural yet. Few & Far Girls created this gorgeous combination of peacock feathers, pansies, and old-timey portraits advertising local salon Maverique Style House. During business hours, cars obscure the mural, so we waited for a Sunday (when the busy salon is closed) to finally get a shot of the wall in all its glory.

Sweatshirt, Old Navy (thrifted and cut up). Shirt, Prabal Gurung for Target. Skirt, J Crew. Boots, Style & Co (thrifted). Sunglasses, Girlprops. Earrings, Rain’s Embellishments. Bag, Mondani.

That's a Short Skirt

. . . is what Beefy said when he saw me dressed for the day. I admitted that I usually wear it with tights or leggings, but sometimes I wear it bare-legged. In fact, the very first time I wore this skirt in front of him, my legs were naked and he didn’t say a word. Just smiled and enjoyed the view.

Jacket, H&M (thrifted). Shirt, One Star (thrifted). Skirt, London Jean. Boots, Madden Girl. Hat, Nine West. Earrings, Claire’s. Bag, thrifted.

Yup, Beefy didn’t say “boo” about the possibility of seeing my underpants four years ago:
