Layers of Brown and Yellow

Yellow cardigan, Mossimo. Brown cowl-neck vest, Worthington. Yellow tee, Charlotte Russe. Long khaki skirt, Petite Sophisitcate. Brown fishnet tights. Yellow pumps, Victoria Spenser. Necklace, Xhilaration. Gold-tone earrings, Claire’s. Wooden bracelet, swap. Gold watch, Raymond Weil.

Although I plan my outfits in advance (usually on Sunday nights), they DO sometimes undergo adjustments on the morning I wear them. In this case, I had originally intended to wear the (buttoned) cardigan under the vest (so that only the sleeves showed) and no yellow tee. I was a little unhappy with the result on Sunday night (during Fashion Show), because the overall look was too formfitting and it seemed dull. Inspiration struck this morning; I substituted the yellow tee under the vest and then topped them both with the unbuttoned cardigan. Now, the layers are working for me.

This could be my favorite outfit you've devised - and I particularly like the great majority of the others.

  3. I like the color combo but I don't know, something about the length of the skirt seems to make it not quite as great as it could be. I understand wanting to wear a longer skirt in the winter, but...hmm, I'm just at a loss as to home to improve the outfit while wearing a long skirt. Perhaps a pair of tall boots? I know you wouldn't be able to wear the cute yellow shoes then, maybe a different kind of hose? Something fun, like some nude fishnets?

I don't want to sound all negative so don't take this the wrong way, cause you have a great blog and some cute outfits.

I take a few guilty-pleasure minutes each morning once I get to work to hop onto your site and see the daily outfits. I do enjoy fashion and have closet full of staples with a few 'zinger' pieces that make me happy. After reveiwing you site over the past month or so I have added a few more pops or 'zingers' of color. I really enjoy most of your outfits, but I always struggle to understand the wild-colored shoes. Again, I like the zingers and really like this outfit but know I could never pull off a colored shoe like those or your green pair.

I usually like your outfits, but for some reason, this color combo just isn't doing it for me. It's not that it doesn't look good on you, it's just that brown and yellow remind me of...well, maybe I shouldn't say. Anyway, I LOVED the English countryside outfit from yesterday!

  6. I like it. Usually, brown and yellow together make me think of M&Ms (the colors of the peanut M&Ms bag), but your outfit, thankfully, does not.

    ;)

  7. I can't wear yellow and brown as way way back I did and I thought I looked pretty smart but someone at work commented that I looked like I worked for the public transport. The conductors at that time wore yellow and brown! So bad memories for me...sob,sob.

Hmmm ... I really like most of your outfits, and I like seeing what you come up with. But I agree with one of the other comments - something about the length of the skirt throws the whole outfit off for me. I think it's too long. I like the top half of this outfit much better than the bottom half.

Lovely colours, great overall styling. The skirt is not the problem methinks; you have long legs and always look streamlined. I generally love your funky shoes, but a taupe or neutral pair with this outfit would have worked better, would've continued the line and avoided the visual break that makes the skirt look a bit off.

If I wanted to comment on every outfit, I would write mainly: "great", "perfect", "fabulous", and so on, which would be boring. So I decided to write only about things I would change (and please assume that if I don't write about something, then it is just great :-))
In today's outfit tights look more black than brown - I'd suggest nude tights instead.
And a word about yesterday's outfit: I had the same trouble with a long wool skirt... and after many experiments I found that it looks best with Victorian-like laced black boots.

That long skirt makes you look douwdy ... please shorten it to just below the knee or swap it.

hmmmm....for some reason, with this outfit, the top portion looks better than the bottom portion. Maybe shorter length and brown boots. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all your wardrobe tips.

  13. Reading about your 'fashion show' Sunday nights put a big smile on my face -- I have a fashion show every time I come home from shopping and it's great fun. Anyway, it gives a great impression of who you are: you are arts and creative and you care about how you look, you're organized and thoughtful, yet still impulsive.

Fabulous outfit! I love the use of muted tones with the shot of yellow - so bright and fresh for this time of year. I think this is one of my favourite outfits thus far
