Touch of Sun: Mostly Black and Navy

Navy and black jacket, Forever 21. Black top and navy skirt, Moda International. Yellow pumps, Victoria Spenser. Yellow “crystal” brooch, Burlington Coat Factory.

Close up of the brooch:

You’re going to think this is horribly trite, but I’ve got another theme this week. This one is born of necessity. Our spring has been so cold, dark, and rainy that I’m desperate for a bit of sun. If the weather gods won’t give it to me, I’ll incorporate some sunny yellow into my wardrobe each day. Of course, the yellow pumps will make a few appearances.

  6. Another great look! I love the black and navy with a splash of yellow. I picked up some grey flats this weekend for less than six bucks (Kohls clearance) and I was wondering if you had any good ideas for wearing them..Certain colors that look good with grey or whatever.

  8. Cheri - just about everything goes with gray (just like black). The only color tough to pair it with is brown. And pairing gray with black or white can look a little depressing.

I think gray looks best paired with brights! Your gray flats are a great way to ground outfits that incorporate some of the bright spring colors in the stores now.

Some non-bright options (but still trendy) are gray/purple and mustard yellow/purple.

While gray "goes" with pastels, that looks a little dated now and I would hold off on pairing it with pale pink, baby blue, or any other soft color until it is fresh again.

  9. Thanks so much! I assumed gray would go with pretty much anything-I'm excited to see what I can do with my outfits and gray flats. I recently purchased a blue/silver shirt and I was planning on wearing them with it too, but brights are really fun!

    another great outfit!

I do wear grey and brown and I love it. You can see a lot of that combo on polyvore. I think texture combination might make the difference. And maybe color depth - lighter or mid grays with medium and darker browns; charcoal grays with warm saddle browns.
