You'd think having my picture taken nearly every day would inspire better grooming, but it hasn't. I had to remove a closeup of my shoes from this post because you could see my hairy legs, inept pedicure, and a scab on the back of my ankle. I couldn't hide my greasy bangs without cropping my head at an odd place, so they are no longer my dirty secret. I guess the leg hair and sloppy polish aren't secret now, either. (I refuse to be ashamed of the scabs and bruises. They just mean I'm tough, not lazy.)
Dress, swap. Slip, vintage and thrifted. Shoes, J Crew. Bag, Mossimo. Bracelets, vintage, Garden of the Gods gift shop, and
Fort. Necklace, thrifted.
I'll never care enough to be polished. I just hope the clacking bracelets, teetering heels, and swirling skirts distract anyone from noticing that I'm not perfectly groomed.

This post strikes a nerve with me. I was in yoga this morning and I looked down at my legs and oh my are they hairy! But I forgot about it by the time I got home and took a shower. Still hairy.
ReplyDeleteI do like your dress, the belt is really cool.
That is the exact reason why I need photoshop!
ReplyDeleteAnyways, you look lovely and your make up looked very polished!

Cute make up!
ReplyDeleteI'm the exact opposite.
Everything has to be in order at the beginning of the day.
You're not the only one running around ungroomed! I frequently forget to shave, flat iron my bangs into submission. Forget nail polish, I'd chip it to bits in minutes. We're human. ;D
ReplyDeleteLove that dress and that belt pairing. They go perfectly.
I am also not a polished person - you're not alone in this, I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteI shave my legs *maybe* once a week, and my toes are done with a 60 second polish every few weeks. I do spring for an eyebrow wax every 6 weeks, but I'm pathetically lazy at plucking in between. My hair gets greasy by the end of the day, my face is an oil slick and my make-up is usually gone for the most part.
:)
You might have a banged up pedicure and hairy legs, but you still have a very lady-like slip on and you still look awesome!
ReplyDeleteI have a dress in a pattern like yours....easy to wear and mine is very figure forgiving!
ReplyDeleteYou look lovely!
haha I hate getting in the car and looking down and realizing my pedicure looks horrible...and oh there's a patch of hair I missed. HA! You're definitely not the only one.
ReplyDeleteI wore that lace skirt as a shirt the other day. My boyfriend was like, "I like your shirt! I haven't seen that one before!" Huh, there's a reason for that...

You could probably come up with a more interesting way to wear it, but I was in a hurry lol.
I am in no way polished on a daily basis. In fact I've worn closed toed shoes for a week due to a terribly old pedicure.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is absolutely, jaw-droppingly amazing on you. I think it's my favorite of your ever!
Haha whether or not I wear a dress is totally dependent on how hairy my legs are....I completely understand! I love your bracelets!

either i'm blind or you failed to mention where those amazing sunglasses are from.
ReplyDeleteand i think we are all occasionally victims of ill grooming... who has time to redo peddis more than once a month or go back to shave missed spots? I always just say i'll get em tomorrow...
Chic on the Cheap
Gorgeous dress. Really gorgeous shoes.
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous! Maxi skirts
ReplyDelete= no need to shave : >
The sunglasses are Betsey Johnson from TJ Maxx. I wear and credit them so often that I thought I'd bored everyone to death.
ReplyDeleteThat dress looks amazing on you
ReplyDeleteHave you worn the belt before? It is gorgeous. Does the dress have a label? And, Sarah, that lace skirt looks fantastic on you as a top! Thanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteCindy - I've worn the belt once before. (http://whatiwore2day.blogspot.com/2011/07/summer-trends-sparkles-for-day.html) I just thrifted it last month. The dress doesn't have a label....it might be handmade.
ReplyDeleteSarah - LOVE the skirt as a top! The sheer lace at the bottom looks so pretty over jeans.
I completely related to what you said about grooming! I'm not a salon girl at all; I cut my own hair and do my own toenails, and neither one gets done on a regular basis. I don't pluck my eyebrows. And yet, when it comes to dressing, I always go the extra mile, piling on the accessories, mixing up the prints, wearing sky high heels - all the while wondering what people would think if they knew what was realy going on under all of the hoopla! The way I see it, we can be fanatic about only so many things. And if you're already putting all this energy into dressing, shopping, and blogging (not to mention working full time!), how can you be expected to keep up with mundane things like shaving? And washing dishes? At least that's how I rationalize it all :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress!
