Natamos Natomas

I’m learning all the little towns around Sacramento and how to pronounce their names. For some reason, I had it stuck firmly in my head that the community north of the city was called Natamos. After being laughed at and corrected, I gave myself a mnemonic device to remember the correct order of the vowels: “Natomas Hematomas.”

Dress, swap. Scarf (worn as belt), Calypso St Barth for Target. Shoes, thrifted. Bag, Go Jane. Sunglasses, Girl Props. Earrings, No Boundaries. Necklace, Serket Jewelry. Cuff, vintage. Ring, gift.

If you know what a “hematoma” is, then you’ve realized it isn’t a flattering rhyme. I have nothing against Natomas. I like the gym I tried today and this photo location. But it’s really hard for me to remember its proper name!

  1. Have you come across "Tuolumine" yet? Don't feel so bad , my Mother said "San Josie" and "Valley Joe" for years. (San Jose, Vallejo)

  2. That dress is gorgeous! Can't believe you got it in a swap- I'm going to check out more online swap sites. BTW, you make moving across country and starting a new job look like a piece of cake! How do you do it??

    1. It is definitely NOT easy. So far, I've cried three times this month and I'm working 10 to 12 hours a day. I hope it will be "easy" in about 6 months!

  3. Perhaps if you could find some disgusting medical terminology to rhyme with the gym / photo location, that would help? ;)

I have to say, I really love the way certain words feel in the mouth, regardless of their meaning. Not to mention, sometimes a hematoma can be a relief if you at first thought it was something much worse.

I love the way you're working the combos with limited selection!
