Perfect

Velvet blazer, Cami. Blouse, Merona. Tweed mini, Willi Smith (thrifted and altered). Layered tights, Hue and Merona. Boots, Nine West. Ring, Jan Michaels San Francisco.

I thought this was a perfect outfit. I loved the mix of textures and colors. I felt fabulous in it.

This is a fun blazer. It can be worn with the throat open as I’ve done today, or buttoned all the way to the neck for a Nehru collar. I wasn’t feeling quite that formal today, though.

I had to show off the detail on the back of the blazer

  1. What a great look! The colors and textures just subtly "scream" FALL is HERE! :-) (Well, almost winter now!)

The ring is such a beautiful detail to this look! We must all be about the fall colors today! My "daily wear" blog post today is all brown and orangy... :-)

  3. I've never thought about layering tights, but I might have to try that when I'm walking to work next time!

  6. i'm curious to how the skirt had been altered?

  7. I have a question about the alterations, too -- I notice you wear most of your skirts & dresses above the knee, and you mention often that they've been shortened. How tall are you and how do you decide what length your skirts & dresses should be? Do you go by your height, a personal preference, or the garment itself?

  8. slogoin' vws - this is one of the few skirts that I made LONGER! It is a wrap skirt, so I just moved the buttons so that it sat on my hips, instead of my true waist.

k.l.r. - I'm just under 5'5" with a short torso. I like most of my skirts to hit above the knee. I usually stand in front of a mirror and experiment with different lengths (held in place with straight pins), before I decide on a place to hem it. My calves and ankles are probably my best feature, so I like to reveal them.

  9. Thanks Kasmira -- that makes total sense. You've made me realize I need to reevaluate some of my hem lengths to improve the look of a few pieces (like that red dress, lol!)

  10. I agree--this IS the perfect outfit. And so funny because I was literally just in my closet putting together combinations of red, brown and yellow as well!!! I'm going to try mine out in the next week.

I have some bright red tights and I've been stressing about the color red not matching up exactly with other items in my closet but I feel better after seeing your picture--the reds are close but not a perfect match but it still looks great.

However, i need information on this layering tights--they LOOK like one pair in the picture. Is one a nude textured and the other a red or what? Need more details!

  11. Leslie - I'm wearing a pair of solid, burgundy tights by HUE as a base. On top, I layered a pair of open-weave burgundy tights from Target. They are nearly the same color of burgundy.
