Dead Old Ladies

Sweater, Forever 21. Dress, Ann Taylor Loft. Necklace and brooch, thrifted. Bag, No Boundaries. Shoes, Vanelli (thrifted).

Part of my trouble with thrifting shoes is that I am only attracted to the vintagey footwear. Why bother thrifting something I could buy new at Payless or Target for only a few bucks more? I gravitate toward the old and unusual shoes – the kind that end up at the thrift store when someone dies. Unfortunately, most of the dead old ladies seem to have worn a size 6 shoe. I was lucky to find this pair, donated by an unusually bigfooted, size-seven-and-a-half-shoe-wearing lady.

  2. Nice work on the shoes! Beautiful necklace and pin :)

Some very fashionable woman with teeny tiny feet lives in this area- there is a *great* pair of red Oh Deer! pumps at my local consignment shop that taunt me when I go in there. I forget the exact size, but somewhere in 5.5 - 6.5 range. No good for my 7.5 - 8 size foot!

A vintage size 6 at that, which is more like a size 5, 5 and a half. I am a size 6 and have trouble finding things big enough myself!~

    Those are fabulous though. :D

  4. My size 9 feet take offense to you petite size 7.5 feets.

    Hmphf!

All joking aside those are super cute, I personally am skeeved out by previously owned foot wear and am now even more skeeved out thinking their owners are no longer living! Yikes.

  5. As you know, I thrift constantly, and 99.99% of my shoes are bought this way, and I wear a 8. Older style shoes are hard to find!

    But...I had to laugh...
I have a lot of "dead ladies jewelry" that friends have given me, from friends that have passed away. PLus.....I have a ton of my grandmothers, yes, passed away jewels. I love them, and feel like I am passing on their love for fashion and jewels!

  6. I have a really tough time finding second-hand shoes that fit my giant feet (9-10, Euro 40). Mostly, I go to the thrift shops that get their clothes/shoes from the rich old ladies who buy new shoes all the time. Most of them are barely worn.

Cool to know you are familiar with my area! :)

  10. When I wa thrifting over the weekend, I swore that Goodwill must have unloaded the motherload of vintage old lady handmade shoes. There were so many gorgeous handmade leather and designer shoes. All too small, of course. But whomever they came from had a great shoe collection.

  14. I have giants feet then, Cause I wear a size 10..even though I am almost 5'10 I still feel like I have big feet. Over here in Europe it is a size 40 and most stores do not carry them. Sooo that is why I love shopping online.=)

Those are great lil shoes, I love the detail.
