July Purchases

You won’t believe it. I didn’t spend my $100 allowance this month and it wasn’t the IRS’ fault. Just a case of shopping ennui.

Shoes.com
1. Two Lips red Vanity wedges, $21.26

Thanks again to Zeus’ Mom for the suggestion and coupon code.

Sprightly Strands
2. Feathered Headband, $27

I certainly don’t need another feathered headband, but this one is so lovely. The iridescent green feathers and the beading detail persuaded me to add to my collection. I bought this from the Sprightly Strands booth at Second Sunday, but the artist also has an etsy shop.

Target
3. Jeggings, $19.99

I’m still not down with skinny jeans, even if Angie says they are a classic. They just seem too uncomfortable. Instead, I’ll wear the denim/legging hybrid and perhaps fool everyone into thinking I’ve squeezed myself into skinny jeans.

Total: $68.25.

I came in underspent this month, but am seriously contemplating buying a tooled leather backpack to tote my work gear. I’m riding the bus more these days and my shoulder bags are killing me. The bag’s price will exceed my August budget.

  1. Buy the bag. It's an investment.

  2. But if you pool your left over July money and maybe dip into September it will be all good. I say go for it!

  5. Great bag! I have a leather backpack that I use for days when I have to carry around a lot of stuff. I got it for law school, and it held up to 3 years of lugging around a laptop and heavy casebooks.

Great feather headband! I'm loving all the headgear you've been wearing lately.

  7. I would not buy the bag. Take it from someone who commutes two-hours one way. While they look good, leather bags are heavy when they're empty. Even more so when they're filled. That makes them hard to lug from home to work. If you want a backpack, try a microfiber one. You won't be sorry.

  8. T - I bought the shoes from shoes.com with the coupon code 30off. But that was back on July 3 or so. I'm not sure if the code still works.

  9. I'm with rail writer Janet. If you're having problems with a regular tote/purse, then a leather backpack is the wrong choice. It's gorgeous, but it will be heavy empty o& very heavy filled. There are lightweight leather bags if you don't want to go the microfiber route. I don't know whether queen bee creations in Portland makes backpacks, but all their purses/totes are of a lightweight leather & they might know someone that uses it for backpacks.

  12. I love denim leggings! Far more comfortable than skinny jeans and when I wear them, I feel like I'm putting one over on Dame Fashion. Take that, skinnies! You can be fashionable* and comfortable, all at the same time!

    * Jury is still out on whether I actually look fashionable in denim leggings but oh well. I can still eat and wear "jeans" at the same time!

  13. Love the headband! What a small world.! I just stumbled upon your blog today while searching for the Dalia Collection because I found a pair of Dalia cargo capris on clearance at ross, and then I loved it so much, I couldn't help but to keep reading. Well, then I saw this post and I saw your headband and I was like wow, that looks a lot like Sprightly Strand's work. How do I know this? Thomas Saylor, A friend of mine, who is an Etsy Crafter, and also a member of the Queer Etsy Street Team, tagged Sprightly Strands on his facebook, who is also a member of the QEST.
    Small, Small world!
