Sweater, Bloch (I cut the wrap ties off). Shirt, J Crew. Belt, thrifted. Skirt, gifted, shortened, and embellished. Tights, Hue. Flats, Joyce (thrifted). Bracelet, Pangaea.
Today I was inspired by a clipping from In Style. The inspiration outfit was designed to make a strapless sheath dress appropriate for work. I’m wearing a skirt, instead of a full dress, but I’ve got the other elements of the In Style ensemble: long-sleeved sweater, oxford shirt, double wrap belt, flats, and a charm-style bracelet. Of course, I had to add a Kasmira element with the studded owl. (By the way, I’m “hoo”ing at you, like an owl, in the lead photo, not blowing a kiss. I think most people write the owl sound as “hoot,” but I don’t hear a “t” in an owl’s call.)
These super flexible, and never worn, ballet flats are my fourth pair of thrifted shoes. I never would have considered thrifting shoes before the $20 outfit challenge. The second-hand pair I bought for the challenge were a disappointment (expensive to replace the heel tips and horribly uncomfortable) but the studded flats and Champion sneakers I found later are real winners!
Gorgeous, and I'm totally modeling tomorrow's outfit on this, but KASMIRA....no kitten pictures? Let me live vicariously through your kitteny happiness...
ReplyDeletePS- You're a fellow theater person--are you a GLEE fan?
What gave you the idea to cut the wrap ties on the sweater? I am currently considering doing same but am too scared - what if I ruin it? Why can't they make them detachable? I know my sweater doesn't look good on me because I have no waist to speak of. So keeping it closed with a belt won't work for me. Oh, what to do?
ReplyDeleteGood heavens, you're well organized. No wonder you always look great.
ReplyDeleteI'm terribly flattered and grateful for the link, Kasmira, but I think you may have the wrong Sheila! I'm organized, but damn, not THAT organized!
ReplyDeleteI really like those dark reds on you.
What is up with that....large settee??
This looks even better than the source. Love the skinny belt and the flats - and the ruffles on the shirt! Very flattering look.
ReplyDeleteAs always, you crack me up! Love the look, the owl skirt is too fun =)
ReplyDeleteAre you telling me you studded that owl YOURSELF?!?
ReplyDeleteI love your outfit so much more than the inspiration. The ruffles on the shirt are lovely, and I love the colours you chose. It's festive without being over the top.
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of clippings here and there... but, FILE !!! OMG !!!!
ReplyDeletewhat a super cute look!
ReplyDeleteOhhh, I love the belted cardigan!
ReplyDeleteMarley - humph. I have a suspicion that I'm being upstaged by kittens! I have to admit, though, they are cuter than I am! I'll post more pics soon.
ReplyDelete~Tessa~Scoffs - the sweater just looked bad on me when tied, so I cut the ties off. I have worn it open (as you might) and liked it (http://whatiwore2day.blogspot.com/2009/11/ima-starr.html) I haven't had any trouble with unraveling since I cut the ties.
Sheila - Wow. I have no idea who it was, then! I hope that person speaks up.
The large settee was in the lobby of a hotel in Disney World. I thought it was funny because it made me feel like shrunken Alice.
Sal - I did stud it meself. I wrote a little about the process here: http://whatiwore2day.blogspot.com/2009/11/triple-threat.html
Oh oh, I modeled my outfit on this one today. Although I decided against my red tights in favor of black sweater leggings, being as it's like, 15 degrees out. And I have no owl. ALTHOUGH- At Michael's craft store, I found an iron-on rhinestone transfer in that pattern, and I put it on a long sleeve tee from Old Navy, as it was much too boring to wear as it was. Anyway, you continue to be my sartorial hero.
ReplyDeleteMarley - I wonder if we bought the same iron-on! I bought one at Michael's when I went to replace my lost knitting needle. I haven't decided which garment to adorn with it yet.
ReplyDeleteLove the color in this outfit! Great shoes!
