Bad Colors

I never kept a consistent diary as a girl. I’d write in it a few times and then abandon the journal. Later, I’d take it up again, read the old entries, and rip out the pages, embarrassed at the ramblings of my younger self.

This outfit diary is the most regular record I’ve ever kept. Amazingly, I’m not too terribly ashamed of the early posts. In fact, I find my self of a few years ago amusing. For instance, in August of 2007, I said that I look awful in purple and gray. In October, I continued to dismiss the colors. And, yet, here I am a few years later, wearing purple and gray, head to toe.

Dress, I Heart Ronson. Turtleneck, Mossimo or Merona or some Target “M” brand. Vest, Urban Vibe. Boots, White Mountain. Belt, thrifted. Headband, Forever 21.

I very nearly wore even more gray. I initially planned to wear my wispy To the Max cardigan over the dress. My stylist suggested the denim biker vest instead.

Which do you prefer? Bad girl or good girl?

I like it...
rough (moto vest)
sweet (wispy cardigan)

Bad girl for sure. And I think you look lovely in purple and gray. Maybe the blonde hair works better with these colors?

  3. pretty pretty. I actually got this dress from JCP the other day! I was surprised to find it. I think you do a great job with the gray. Both looks are nice- I am partial to the cardigan, though. :)

I was wondering if I could style this dress for the winter- you've shown me that it can be done!!!

  4. I never liked to wear gray when I had red hair. Then when I tried black it worked ok, but now I'm a platinum blonde, too and it works wonderfully. The hair color makes a huge difference. P.S. I am obsessed with peacock feathers. <3

  13. i love purple+grey together, and on you it looks great!
I like the vest the best - but if you weren't wearing a turtleneck underneath, i would prefer the cardigan.
That dress is amazing - I need some peacock patterned things in my life!

  15. I like both, but prefer the vest. Breaks up the sweetness of the dress. I have to agree with Sal. Maybe the colors just look better with your short and blonde do.

  22. I used to do that with my diary too! I thought I was the only one. I like both outfits, but prefer the cardi. Ultimately I think it depends on the mood.
