April Purchases

April started merrily enough. I went thrifting and I bought some things online. Then, on April 9th, I finally had my taxes done and discovered that I owed the IRS 20 months worth of clothing budget. I promptly stopped shopping. Here’s what I bought before I had to subsist on rice and ramen for the rest of the month:

St Vincent de Paul:
1. Perforated leather oxfords, $2.00
2. Striped dress, 99¢
3. Sweatshirt, 99¢

(The dress and sweatshirt were in the kids section and everything there was 99¢.)

Goodwill:
4. Grandpa vest, $1.99
5. Belt, $1

DSW:
6. Floral tights, $9.95

Walgreen’s:
7. Black and gray zebra scarf, $5.99

Underworks:
8. Pettipants, 6 x $7.99 = $47.94

If you aren’t familiar with pettipants, they are like a cross between underwear and a slip. My order arrived mid-month and I'm a convert to, what I now call, "lady boxers." I bought the 4 inch inseam model (the shortest available), because many of my skirts are on the short side. Love 'em!

Finally, Hillary of The Gleam of Rose Tea sold a few of her things in late April and I bought a pair of shoes:

9. Multicolored wedges, $10

Total was $80.85. There’s nothing like a good ol’ punch in the face from the government to help one stay within budget!

(By the way, think I wore my new cowboy boots enough? I'm determined to get my $200 worth of wearing.)

The Brass

Tonight, was our first off-book rehearsal for A Piece of My Heart. How appropriate that I should wear my military-inspired vest and brass-toned accessories.

Vest, Forever 21. Dress, Bill Berman (thrifted). Slip, thrifted. Shoes, Giannai Bini. Necklace, Kenneth Cole Reaction. Ring, vintage. Bracelet, Urban Outfitters. Bag, Apt 9. Sunglasses, Girl Props.

Owl Patches

I seem to be collecting owl appliqués, but don’t have a plan for incorporating them into my wardrobe. Help me get these cuties out of my sewing box!

Should I attach a patch to a skirt? Emblazon a blazer? Convert them to brooches?

I studded an owl onto a skirt and one of my owl brooches is permanently attached to my Dex jacket.

I glued brooch backs to this appliqué so that I didn’t have to commit.

What do you suggest?

Jungle Fever Just Won't Quit

Actually, I think this is might be the end of Jungle Fever. I am out of animal print cardigans to pair with this dress.

Shrug, Express (swap). Dress, Jones New York. Belt, some teeny bopper store. Shoes, Two Lips. Bracelet, thrifted. Earrings, Nine West.

The Jungle Fever series:

Hello, Green

This is the second time I’ve worn my Dalmatian dress and the second time I’ve accented the black and white with green. For the third wearing, I’ll avoid a rut and bring in another animal print. (Because, you know, I’ve never mixed animal prints before.) For now, enjoy the greens!

Jacket, Urban Behavior (swapped and embellished). Dress, Chadwick’s (thrifted). Pumps, Colin Stuart. Brooch, my grandmother. Green enamel bracelets, Target. Studded bracelet and sunglasses, Girl Props. Bag, Liz Claiborne.

"To Go" Drawer

It makes no sense to keep my lipstick with the rest of my makeup. I don’t usually put it on until I’m leaving the house. I also like to be sure that the day's lipcolor makes its way into my purse or pocket, for touchups later. Keeping my collection by the front door, in my “to go" drawer, works best for my lifestyle.

I keep lipcolor, sunglasses, gum, lipbalm, compact mirrors, travel-size lotion, and oral hygiene gear in a single drawer. The lipcolor is segregated into pinks and reds. This system makes it simple for me to grab what I need as I leave the house.

Cat included for scale only, of course.

When I’m home for the day, or just emptying all the week’s accumulated purses, I replace the items in the drawer. I rarely lose my favorite lipstick, anymore.

Where do you store your lipcolor?

Stripey Jammies

On Mondays, I don’t go anywhere but swim practice and rehearsal, so it’s a struggle to wear anything but my grubbies and glasses. This ensemble is as comfortable as pajamas.

Sweater, Bloch (I cut off the ties). Dress, Zoey Beth, thrifted. Scarf, Walgreen’s. Leggings, JW. Boots, Forever 21.

I was trying to show you my shoes, but it just came out kind of obscene…and you really couldn’t see the shoe details after all.

Ooh La La

I’m confused. Are horizontal stripes nautical or French? I’m going with Gallic today.

Top, Tommy Hilfiger (swap). Skirt, Billabong. Shoes, thrifted. Earrings, Nine West. Zinnia brooches, self-made.

Damp Day

Today was beyond damp. I ran at lunch in the pouring rain. After four miles, my hair was soaked. Instead of fighting the humidity, I left it wild and crazy.

Blazer, borrowed. Blouse, Forever 21. Skirt, Rafaella (thrifted). Scarf, World Market. Shoes, Gianni Bini. Owl brooch, borrowed from Tina.
