Opening Day and Night

It’s opening day for the Reds and opening night for Annie Get Your Gun. Take me out to the ballgame and let's go on with the show!

Jacket, Allen B. Tank, YS (swap). Skirt, my USMC service uniform (embellished by me). Lace tights, Apostrophe. Red tights, Anne Klein. Shoes, Nine West. Ring, G&S. Cap, Beefy’s.

Truthfully, Beefy was WAY more excited for opening day than I was (and he forced me to wear this hat). The only thing I really like about baseball is the hotdogs and beer.

I’m not a fan of any activity in which balls fly at my face. Yet, I’m always made catcher when forced to play softball.

Opening night is more my cup of tea. I'll have costume photos to share this weekend.

March Purchases

I made my planned purchase for March (a pair of sandals) and then some.

JC Penney

1. Allen B striped jacket, $40.60

I'm curious as to how a style "craving" begins. I can't pinpoint the moment when I began hungering for a striped jacket, but it soon became a minor obsession. It certainly didn't help that both Kimberly and Angie published images and shopping information for a few versions. I found the perfect price and style at JC Penney, but was hesitant to purchase online because I wasn't familiar with the line's sizing. Beefy was a real stand-up guy and drove me to two JC Penney stores (in two states) to search for the magic jacket. When I found it, and it fit, I was totally satiated.

Aldo
2. Earrings, $10

I've been looking for some large, gold, blingy earrings to complete certain outfits. These look great, but are really heavy.

TJ Maxx

3. Betsey Johnson sunglasses, $14.99

I'm breaking out of my bug-eyed sunnies rut. This style is sort of a cross between a wayfarer and a cateye.

4. Aerosoles nude wedge sandals, $29.99 (not pictured)

These comfy sandals have a higher heel than I was looking for, but promise to be very comfortable. I hope to debut them in April and wear them all summer.

March’s total: $95.58

I might blow all of April’s budget this weekend. There are a few things at Target I’m drooling over:

I’m pretty set on the bag, but I haven’t tried the clothing on. I’ll admit the jeans look much better on the rack than on the model. I hope that isn’t the case when I try them on. If so, there are plenty of other garments calling my name at Tar-jay (like the designer collection re-releases).

Total spending for the year: $291.92

Frye boots fund: $8.08. (At this rate, I’ll have enough to buy a pair of boots in about 12 years.)

Rocks and Sky

I’m dressed to match a cool, gray day and the exposed rubble of The Bridge to Nowhere.

Jacket, Odds ‘n Evens (thrifted). Shirt, Mossimo. Skirt, Peyton Place (thrifted and shortened). Tights, We Love Colors. Shoes, Isaac Mizrahi for Target. Earrings, Panagea. Belt, thrifted.

Rides Again

I've worn this outfit before but I accidentally deleted the pictures. Only the Cheap Chick saw me, so I saved this repeat for a week when I was short of inspiration and time.

Dress, Banana Republic (thrifted). Belt, thrifted. Tights, Apostrophe. Boots, Nine West. Earrings, Aldo.

This is another dress that I’ll put away until fall. The wool fabric and dark color don’t appeal to me during the spring and summer. I have a few months to think about how I’m going to mix it up next fall.

So far, I haven’t gotten much more creative than changing out the belt and adding a vest.

Ogre Legs

I listened to Shrek: The Musical today and have ogres on the brain. I think my favorite song might be Donkey’s “Don’t Let Me Go.”

Sweater, vintage. Dress, London Times (handed down and shortened). Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Miz Mooz. Necklaces, Newport News and thrifted. Bag, Franco Sarto. Sunnies, Betsey Johnson.

Grrr! Ogre legs!

I was also amused by all of the puns and Fiona and Shrek’s farting/belching contest. What can I say? I have a lowbrow sense of humor.

Sweaty Sunday - 18 miles

Today, I ran my longest run yet: 18 miles!

I was worried about completing this run because
- My 16 mile run was a struggle, both mentally and physically.
- I had run a fast half-marathon 7 days before.
- And I was coming out of a stressful, busy week in which I had only managed to squeeze in a single, short run.

The 18 miler didn’t start out well. I made a couple of navigation errors in the first two miles. After 20 minutes of running, despite a good breakfast, I was so hungry that I ate my first Gu way ahead of schedule. (Thankfully, I brought one extra.) But I kept my pacing slow and steady and was feeling good by mile six. Once in a groove, I relaxed, listened to my tunes, and finished the 3 hour run.

I get a little break next weekend (only 10 miles!) before the peak of my training schedule: a 20 mile run (followed by a performance in Annie Get Your Gun).
