Speakeasy

I’m posting these photos at 11:59 EST on New Year’s Eve. Since I’m spending the holiday in Cincinnati, not Antarctica, they were obviously taken much earlier in the day.

Shrug, Express (swap). Dress. Steppin' Out (vintage). Tights, Urban Outfitters. Shoes, Two Lips. Headpiece, self-made. Sunnies, Girl Props.

The South Pole would be an awfully exciting place to ring in the New Year. Second best, is the Know Theatre CityBeat NYE Speakeasy Party.

Happy New Year!

P.S. I was so thrilled to meet two readers at the party! Thanks for saying "hi," ladies!

Paparazzi

It sucks to be such a big blog star. I’m always dodging the paparazzi. Here, I’m just trying to get my cup o’ go juice and some jerk with a telephoto lens is capturing my worst angles and most awkward poses.

Sweater, Takeout. Tee, Mossimo. Skirt, Dex (swap). Socks, Sock Dreams. Boots, Dan Post. Earrings, self-made.

Baby's Got a Brand New Lens

Normally, I don’t refer myself in the third person (or as “baby”), but I’m a little excited about the new lens (Beefy) Santa brought me last Saturday. We tested it out this afternoon.

Jacket, Wilson’s. Sweater, I Heart Ronson. Shirt, American Eagle (thrifted). Dress, American Apparel. Belt, thrifted. Leggings, Danskin. Boots, Diba. Necklaces, VCLM and thrifted.

Western Waldo

This outfit is a little bit Where’s Waldo meets Wild West.

Striped shirt, swap. Dress, Forever 21 (thrifted and dyed). Scarf, gift. Belt, thrifted. Jeggings, Mossimo. Boots, Dan Post. Slave bracelet, G&S.

Little Lace Number

I seem to be wearing this skirt with increasing frequency. It gets a lot of wear around the blogosphere as well. I know of at least three other bloggers who own one of the colorways: Tania, Kyla, and Erin. They can’t get enough of this little lace number, either.

Cardigan, Wet Seal. Sweater, The Limited. Skirt, Mossimo. Tights, Stocking Diva. Boots, Diba. Belt, thrifted. Necklace, vintage. Headband, self-made.

The best thing about this skirt might have been the price. It was on clearance for $4.24.

Bright Stripes

Given my love of pattern mixing, it was only a matter of time before I wore two striped tops at once. The bright tartan scarf was the cherry on top of my stripey confection.

Scarf, gift. Cardigan, Old Navy. Turtleneck, Gap (swap). Jeans, Dollhouse (dyed black again this morning). Boots, Dan Post.

WWBJW

As I dressed for a Christmas Eve Eve party tonight, I thought, “What would B Jones wear?” It might be something like this…

Hat, Epcot Germany. Sleeveless cardigan, Forever 21 (embellished by me). Striped top, Jones New York (thrifted). Skirt, Mossimo. Leggings, Danskin. Shoes, Siegerson Morrison for Target. Necklace, swap.

B(eth) Jones is an LA style blogger and stylist. Her blog is among my top ten favorites. Her style is fearless and cutting edge. She mixes patterns and formality levels better than anyone else. I love that she incorporates unique vintage pieces into almost every outfit and wears tons of hats. I doubt she’d actually wear my outfit (the skirt is too short and the shoes too bright), but I think it has a funky B Jones vibe. It serves me well to ask, "WWBJW?"

Style Chain

I was enamored by Jessica’s recent mix of a gray sweatshirt and blue gingham oxford shirt. I copied the look at my first opportunity.

Sweatshirt, Old Navy (thrifted and altered). Shirt, American Eagle (thrifted). Jeans, Dollhouse (overdyed). Boots, Dan Post. Earrings, vintage. Bracelet, swap. Bag, Lewis (vintage and thrifted)

Poncho Spirit

I’m afraid you will be seeing me in ponchos more often...now that I have appropriate outerwear to wear on top.

Poncho, Newport News. Dress, Forever 21. Sweater (under dress), Target. Tights, Urban Outfitters. Booties, Madden Girl. Necklace, vintage. Bracelets, Girl Props.

I have three ponchos. The red one I’m wearing today is perfect for the holiday season. The black ones go with anything.

Ponchos* get a lot of hate. In fact, the cropped poncho (pictured above right) had an entire hateful thread devoted to it on a forum. What’s your verdict? Love or hate? In or out? Or just don’t care?

(“Poncho” is the weirdest word, though. Say it over and over….paaaaanchoh, paaaaanchoh. Once you’ve entered semantic satiation it becomes complete nonsense. And if you’re Stanley Toothbrush, the ponchos of the world will disappear.)
