Caped

While Beefy and I were on our Michigan vacation, I persuaded him to take me to Goodwill one snowy afternoon. There, I found the olive pencil skirt I’d been wishing for and Beefy spotted this new-with-tags cape. He graciously surrendered it to me.

Cape, Mossimo (thrifted). Poncho (underneath), Newport News. Turtleneck, Merona. Skirt, Mossimo. Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Miz Mooz. Bag, Lewis (thrifted and vintage)

I’m discovering that a cape is more practical than I might have thought. For instance, it is the only outerwear one can comfortable wear over a poncho.

The cape has purple lining!

As you might have guessed from the festive color combination, we were on our way to a holiday party. I added a perky pair of antlers to complete my Christmas-y look.

Beefy got into the spirit of things, too, and wore my Valkyrie Santa hat:

Gretchen, center, is wearing a musical, dancing elf hat.
Still photos don’t do it justice.

Photos by Beefy Muchacho. (Except the last one, which was taken by Nate.)

Wow, that red color is just stunning with your hair. Also, that is the best poncho outfit I've ever laid eyes on.

I have a cape, a beautiful thick black one, that I bust out in the cold rains here in San Francisco. My friend gave it to me 5 years ago, and I love it!

I have that same cape! I've been debating embellishing it but I'm afraid to do anything permanent.

Awwww, a Mossimo cape of your own! Now we can be, like, cape twins! Or something... Maybe that's just in my head. Moving on.

Anyway - love the look. Festive, fun, and you're wearing the Boots Of Glory. Which, as you know, I covet mightly.

The cape, the poncho, the boots...they are all making me hyperventilate.....I need to find them all....
Wish I had your sense of style fearlessness!

Love the colors :)
And I hadn't thought of that useful aspect of capes, so bad I've kept avoiding getting one because I believed them impractical.

freeda - you might think about a removable embellishment like Vanessa's feather epaulettes:

I love the red shawl and is cute with the turtle neck.. and the cape.. well... I have been trying on cape lately too but no sure about the armholes. Maybe for ladies back in the day, they didnt have to move their arms around other than a slight lady-like wave to a man. BUT us today.. well.. how can I carry a laptop bag with constrained arms like that? Or heave a bag of salt into the back of my car in the winter...LOL

Jodi - I agree...shoulder bags are mostly off limits with a cape. I wouldn't even THINK about a backpack!

I may try something like that embellishment... I sense a trip to Michaels in my future.

Jodi, I have a weakness for smallish flat cross-body bags, and those work great under a cape or poncho! In fact, that is what I wear when traveling to make myself inconvenient to pickpockets.
