Martinez

I’m terminally curious about what might be over the next rise or beyond the next bend. Every time I’ve driven over the Carquinez Strait, I’ve wondered about both the towns of Benicia and Martinez, viewed only from the bridges, above. I’m dying to get a better view of the ghost fleet from Benicia and an up close look at Martinez’s refineries. I satisfied a little of my curiosity about Martinez, today, and discovered the waterfont park and the marina.

Jacket, vintage from New Gate Celtic Theatre. Dress, Bar III. Shoes, Oh Deer! Sunglasses and necklace, Target. Scarf, thrifted. Barcelets, Tala’s Distant Treasures and Mixit.

Flapperish

This outfit had a bit of a flapper vibe. I’ve always been a fan of a boyish silhouette, but will never possess one. (Instead, I have perfectly unnecessary, child-bearing hips.) I’m faking a flapper look with short hair, pearls, and a hip camouflage.

Blazer, J Crew. Blouse, I Heart Ronson. Shorts, Sans Souci. Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Rampage. Sunglasses, Target. Necklaces, Stella & Dot and thrifted. Bracelets, Claire’s. Bag, Fossil (gift)

Hip Chick

I suppose I couldn’t help but wear a trendy look, today, considering that two of the items I’m wearing came from hip boutique offerings inside chic salons.

Shirt, Old Navy. Skirt, Peppermint (Cuffs boutique via Deeda salon). Tights, B. Ella. Boots, Style & Co (thrifted). Sunglasses, Target. Necklace, Heart boutique via Byuti salon. Belt, The Limited (thrifted). Bag, Fossil (gift).

A Mode

I take most of my pictures on A (for Aperture) mode. I dial the f-stop as low as it will go (1.4) for a blurred background that makes my outfits pop. Last time I took pictures in this location, the camera was mistakenly set to P (for Program) mode, the camera chose a higher f-stop (5.6), and I was disappointed. I had to come back for a re-do.

Blouse, INC (thrifted). Belt, Sugadamink. Skirt, Cynthia Rowley. Sunglasses, Girl Props. Earrings, Cuffs. Bag, Fossil (gift)

Same location, same shoes, different aperture:

Unfortunately, neither captures how NEON these shoes truly are.

Birds and Breakfast

This morning, Beefy and I participated in the annual Birds and Breakfast event at Effie Yeaw Nature Preserve. Our tour guide took us on a two hour walk through the preserve where we spotted a house wren, deer, wild turkeys, turkey vultures, red-tailed and red-shouldered hawks, an Anna’s hummingbird, killdeer, common merganser, great egrets, snowy egrets, oak titmice, and a lesser goldfinch. Unfortunately, pictures of all these creatures are on Beefy’s camera. Here’s what’s on mine:

Jacket, Laundry by Shelli Segal. Shirt, Mossimo (thrifted). Jeans, Vanilla Star. Boots, Vince Camuto. Sunglasses, Target. Fingerless gloves, made by Beefy’s grandmother.

Yeah, we see all these fabulous animals on the walk and I come back with only a picture of myself. I did photograph this little guy, at the visitor center, afterwards:

He’s a red-shouldered hawk.

Bright Sunshiny Day

Honestly, I had no idea this outfit was so bright until I saw the pictures. I gave the sun itself some competition.

Worn Out

Sadly, I’ve just about worn out this sweater. The collar has lost a jewel, the knit has lost its spring, and the longer fibers are beginning to pill.

Sweater, INC. Skirt, Herman Geist (thrifted and shortened). Tights, Apostrophe. Boots, Rampage. Glasses, La Font. Earrings, Claire’s. Belt, thrifted. Bag, Caprice (thrifted and vintage).

We had a good run, this $19.75-on-sale, leopard sweater and I:
