Thrifting in Dior

I feel stalled this week. Everything is closed or everyone is busy and I’m just waiting for the New Year to move forward. Instead of moping, I donned my velvet, vintage Christian Dior jacket (from my friend Jena) and went thrifting.

Jacket, Christian Dior (vintage gift). Sweater, Joseph A (thrifted). Shorts, Free People (thrifted). Leggings, Allen B. Boots, Ariat. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses.

I don’t wear this jacket enough. It feels too fancy and bold for the everyday. I countered that feeling with cutoffs and western boots.

Colors of the Season

It doesn’t have to be late December for me to pair red and (olive) green. It’s one of my favorite color combos.

Shirt, Salt Valley (consignment). Vest, Tinseltown (cut from a thrifted jacket). Dress, Mossimo. Leggings, We Love Colors. Boots, Sam Edelman.

I Shot Lisa

My calendar is filling up with photography appointments. It’s starting to look like an assassin’s daybook with “shoot Lisa,” “shoot Sam,” “shoot Julia.” I may want to reconsider how I title the bookings.

Coat, Avanti (thrifted). Sweater, Banana Republic (thrifted and gifted). Tunic, Rachel Roy (consignment). Leggings, Amour. Boots, Vince Camuto. Earrings, Claire’s. Bag, Rebecca Minkoff.

I took these photos after shooting Lisa of The Everyday Elevated She’s totally adorable. I’d share a picture from our session, but I’m still editing boudoir pics from Friday. My goal is to finish those, today!

Rogue One

We saw Rogue One tonight! I dressed in my Star Wars best.

Sweatshirt, Forever 21 (customized by me). Shorts, Free People (thrifted). Belt, thrifted. Boots, Vince Camuto. Jacket, Obey (customized by my sister).

I cut the collar and cuffs off this R2D2 sweatshirt and now I like it so much better.

Here’s the sweatshirt, before:

I always wore something over it to hide how bulky the sweatshirt was. After my alterations, the fit is less bulky and more slouchy.

Rustical

As I was choosing photos for The Suburb Experiment’s Style Spotlight, I noticed that Jennifer is wearing a brimmed hat with my favorite outfits. I was immediately inspired to wear a brimmed hat of my own.

Hat, Free Press. Shirt, Salt Valley (consignment). Skirt, Forever 21 (consignment). Legwarmers, Apostrophe. Boots, Sam Edelman. Earrings, tourist shop in Bridgeport, CA. Bag, Rebecca Minkoff. Belt, thrifted.

Local

After getting home at 3 a.m. this morning, I was up for a low-key Saturday. We kept it local. Beefy and I had lunch at Skool and shopped the OliaModa pop-up shop. Then we walked around the corner for cake and cheesecake at Rick’s Dessert Diner. Finally, we finished the day off at the club: a hot tub soak for me and treadmill time for Beefy.

Jacket, H&M (thrifted). Scarf, OliaModa. Shirt, Passport. Skirt, Mural (consignment). Leggings, We Love Colors. Boots, Vince Camuto.

Photos by me, the tripod, and a remote.

In the Now

Sometimes I wonder if I’m “doing” San Francisco right. My leisure trips there always turn into aimless wandering, eating, and drinking. The city makes me feel present. I am so satisfied with each moment that I fail to have any sort of direction to my day. When it’s over, I have a hard time remembering what I did; my recollection is a blur of sights and tastes and smells. As a usually very productive person, I have a hard time justifying an entire day given over to the senses. But I think that’s just the sort of reset I need, especially as I spent the next two days preparing for an important presentation.

Jacket, BCBG Max Azria (consignment). Sweater, Charlotte Russe. Skirt, Chaus Jeanswear (consignment). Boots, Style & Co (thrifted). Scarf, gift. Backpack, Toms (gift). Gloves, gift.
