Colors of the Season

It doesn’t have to be late December for me to pair red and (olive) green. It’s one of my favorite color combos.

Shirt, Salt Valley (consignment). Vest, Tinseltown (cut from a thrifted jacket). Dress, Mossimo. Leggings, We Love Colors. Boots, Sam Edelman.

Rustical

As I was choosing photos for The Suburb Experiment’s Style Spotlight, I noticed that Jennifer is wearing a brimmed hat with my favorite outfits. I was immediately inspired to wear a brimmed hat of my own.

Hat, Free Press. Shirt, Salt Valley (consignment). Skirt, Forever 21 (consignment). Legwarmers, Apostrophe. Boots, Sam Edelman. Earrings, tourist shop in Bridgeport, CA. Bag, Rebecca Minkoff. Belt, thrifted.

Star Whores

I balanced the lingerie elements of these faux-garter stockings and lace panel shorts with utilitarian boots, a Darth Vader sweater, and a studded vest. I think the look is a little sci fi hooker.

Vest, Tinseltown (cut from a thrifted jacket). Sweater, Forever 21 (thrifted). Shorts, Lassie. Tights, Me Moi. Boots, Matisse. Earrings, Francesca’s Closet. Bag, Rebecca Minkoff.

I had to wear my Star Wars lipstick with the Darth Vader sweater.

K.I.S.S.

I’m sure you’ll be surprised to hear I can sometimes over think an outfit. Today, I reminded myself to “Keep It Simple, Stupid,” and selected a fit and flare dress, denim vest, leggings, and my favorite western boots.

Vest, Tinseltown (cut from a consignment jacket). Dress, Shein. Leggings, Amour. Boots, Ariat. Sunglasses, Charming Charlie. Bag, Rebecca Minkoff.

In our photography class, on Sunday, our instructors encouraged us to shoot on Manual. (I have a habit of using the Aperture mode.) I used Manual for the jumping shot (above), but it really is much simpler to use Aperture, as I did below. Keepin’ it real. Keepin’ it simple.

Brickhouse

I met my Toastmasters mentee for lunch and discovered a new-to-me art gallery, The Brickhouse. The owner graciously let me take photos with a few of the outdoor murals. I’ll be back for the big Day of the Dead celebration on my birthday!

Vest, Tinseltown (cut form a consignment jacket). Shirt, Passport. Skirt, Madewell. Boots, Steve Madden. Sunglasses, Marc by Marc Jacobs. Bag, Rebecca Minkoff. Necklace, thrifted.

The murals (from left to right) are by artists @bamr_theartist, @r2romero, and @lisa.elias.

Shorts and Boots

It doesn’t take much of an excuse for me to pair boots and shorts, but, if I needed one, warm autumn days are it!

Vest, Tinseltown (cut from a consignment jacket). Shirt, Spense (consignment). Shorts, Forever 21. Boots, Ariat. Sunglasses, Marc by Marc Jacobs. Earrings, tourist shop in Bridgeport, CA. Bag, El Paso Saddleblanket Co.

I put a video of this outfit on Snapchat, as well as a snap of my ballet togs from Monday night. My user name is whatiwore2day

Experiment No. 605

I’ve got the gray hair to go with the Red Hat Society’s red and purple. Do I look convincing as a Red Hatter?

Vest, Tinseltown (cut from a consignment jacket). Shirt, Keller’s. Skirt, Thailand. Shoes, Katie & Kelly. Sunglasses, Girl Props. Earrings, Super Silver. Bag, Nordstrom Rack.

The circus mural near Rice Alley and 24th has been painted over and replaced with a North Africa-Southeast Asia inspired mural. I appreciated how well the images coordinated with my outfit (although not with the Red Hat Society):

Welcome, Baby!

I can’t even remember the last time I went to a baby shower. Either I’ve never had many reproducing friends or no one invites the cranky kid-less lady. Other than the grandparents and maybe one other attendee, I was the oldest one there. I was certainly the oldest, childless attendee.

Hat, Milani. Vest, Tinseltown (cut from a consignment jacket). Dress, Under Skies (consignment). Shoes, Katie and Kelly. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses. Earrings, Francesca’s Closet. Bag, Nordstrom Rack.

Did all the hormones in the air make me want my own baby? Nope. But it’s a nice excuse for a party!

Old Stuff

I try to reduce clothing waste by wearing the things I like over and over, purchasing second-hand when possible, and donating items that I don’t wear.

Long-time readers know that I’ve worn the heck out of the cheap, Missoni knock-off, zig-zag dress I’ve used as a slip, today.

Vest, Tinseltown (cut from a consignment vest). Striped dress, Banana Republic (consignment). Zig-zag dress, Lipstick. Shoes, Seychelles. Earrings, vintage. Rings, vintage and/or heirloom. Bag, Nordstrom Rack.

Here’s the first time I wore it, a little over nine years ago:

Today marks its 63rd wearing. It’s got a few loose threads, but is otherwise holding up well. Not so my running shoes:

I suppose I’ve worn these at least 63 times, too.
