Last Day

This is my last day of work. As of tomorrow, I’ll be unemployed!

Blouse, Maeve (consignment). Pants, Polo Ralph Lauren. Shoes, Seychelles. Sunglasses, Marc Jacobs. Earrings, Francesca’s Closet. Necklace, handmade gift. Bag, Nordstrom Rack.

Stay tuned for my plans for the next few months. I’ll give you a clue: it has nothing to do with dogs. (Sad face.)

Oh, and one more clue: I'm not going full-time blogger.

Pant

I probably spend way too much time considering hypothetical situations. For instance, what if humans panted instead of sweated to cool off? My front would be covered in foamy slobber on a day like today.

Dress, Parker (consignment). Shoes, Katie & Kelly. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses. Earrings, Charming Charlie. Bralette, Victoria’s Secret. Tote, Nordstrom Rack.

The temps weren’t that horrible by the time Jasper’s 8 pm agility class started. He hardly panted at all. I think I still got sweaty, though.

Sistah Time

Is there anything better than getting drunk with your sister? Especially when your husband is the DD.

I met my sister, Tabitha, in wine country for shopping, eating, and drinking. We ended the day in the pool. It was totally worth the Monday morning hangover.

Dress, American Rag (consignment). Belt, Hadley Polett (consignment). Boots, Ariat. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses. Earrings, Walmart. Bag, Nordstrom Rack.

Burst Seam

One of the dangers of wearing your garments for years (after finding them secondhand) is that they’ll need repairs. I’ve resewn a few seams on this apparently handmade dress that I scored at a swap almost five years ago. Getting dressed, this morning, I discovered new holes, along the right seam of the bodice, but didn’t have time to fix them. I just tried not to raise my right arm all day.

Dress, Swap. Tunic (worn as a slip), Rachel Rachel Roy (consignment). Earrings, flea market. Belt, gift. Bag, Nordstrom Rack. Shoes, Seychelles.

Experiment No. 605

I’ve got the gray hair to go with the Red Hat Society’s red and purple. Do I look convincing as a Red Hatter?

Vest, Tinseltown (cut from a consignment jacket). Shirt, Keller’s. Skirt, Thailand. Shoes, Katie & Kelly. Sunglasses, Girl Props. Earrings, Super Silver. Bag, Nordstrom Rack.

The circus mural near Rice Alley and 24th has been painted over and replaced with a North Africa-Southeast Asia inspired mural. I appreciated how well the images coordinated with my outfit (although not with the Red Hat Society):

New Car Smell

I arrived at the Subaru dealership on Sunday morning and realized I had never bought a car (in the US). My first car was a Subaru Impreza wagon that my stepdad bought for me after graduating college. That car stayed with my sister when I moved overseas with the Marines. In Japan, I bought two or three used cars from other servicemembers. The salt air and hard use guaranteed that those vehicles never lasted long. I returned to the US, repossessed my Impreza, and drove it until the repairs finally cost more than the car’s worth. I was carless until I moved to California and began driving a company car. At age 40, I walked into a dealership for the first time with the intent of purchasing a vehicle.

Shirt, Mossimo. Tank, Old Navy. Skirt, Forever 21 (thrifted). Shoes, Toms. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses. Bag, vintage.

It’s a Crosstrek and is going to be awesome on the rough roads to trailheads.

Welcome, Baby!

I can’t even remember the last time I went to a baby shower. Either I’ve never had many reproducing friends or no one invites the cranky kid-less lady. Other than the grandparents and maybe one other attendee, I was the oldest one there. I was certainly the oldest, childless attendee.

Hat, Milani. Vest, Tinseltown (cut from a consignment jacket). Dress, Under Skies (consignment). Shoes, Katie and Kelly. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses. Earrings, Francesca’s Closet. Bag, Nordstrom Rack.

Did all the hormones in the air make me want my own baby? Nope. But it’s a nice excuse for a party!

Fishy

We’ve begun a new routine at home. Every morning, I dose the dogs, one cat, and myself with cod liver oil. The vet recommended it for Jackson’s dry skin and I didn’t think it could hurt Jasper. Zoro (the cat), is getting on in years and it’s harder to keep weight on him, so the oil is a great calorie bomb for him. I try to adhere to a vegan diet, but I suspect my Omega-3 levels are too low (especially considering all the Omega-6 I eat), so I’ve started taking it as well. I’m hoping my skin and mood will approve.

Shirt, Banana Republic (thrifted). Skirt, Madwell. Shoes, Miss Me. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses. Earrings, Charming Charlie. Bag, Nordstrom Rack.

There seems to be great debate over the best sources of Omega-3, especially when taken through supplements. Lack of regulation, overprocessing, and shelf life make it difficult to choose an effective supplement. I chose the least processed, most reputable, and most environmentally friendly product I could find. It’s oily and smelly, but the animals don’t seem to mind. (And I just follow my dose with a long drink of water.) I might try algae in the future, for myself. Do you take Omega-3 supplements?

Cater

I would not make a good caterer or delivery driver. But I was both, today, procuring and delivering treats for classes at three different salons. (Honestly, Noah’s took care of one, so I only served the remaining two.)

Dress, Jovovich Hawk for Target. Shirt (under dress), Banana Republic (thrifted). Belt, thrift. Leggings, We Love Colors. Boots, Steve Madden. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses. Earrings, Charming Charlie. Scarf, Urban Outfitters. Bag, Nordstrom Rack.

My salons appreciate the snacks and the education!
