I Shot Lisa

My calendar is filling up with photography appointments. It’s starting to look like an assassin’s daybook with “shoot Lisa,” “shoot Sam,” “shoot Julia.” I may want to reconsider how I title the bookings.

Coat, Avanti (thrifted). Sweater, Banana Republic (thrifted and gifted). Tunic, Rachel Roy (consignment). Leggings, Amour. Boots, Vince Camuto. Earrings, Claire’s. Bag, Rebecca Minkoff.

I took these photos after shooting Lisa of The Everyday Elevated She’s totally adorable. I’d share a picture from our session, but I’m still editing boudoir pics from Friday. My goal is to finish those, today!

Caboose

This look is best appreciated from the back. It’s got special details like a button-back sweater and striped socks peeking out of the boots to contrast with the camo leggings. It’s one of those “I hate to see you leave, but I love to watch you walk away” outfits.

Jacket, BCBG Max Azria (consignment). Sweater, Gibson (thrifted). Shorts, Free People (thrifted). Leggings, Amour. Socks, Sock Dreams. Boots, Vince Camuto. Earrings, Claire’s Boutique. Necklace, auction. Bag, vintage.

Shades of Green

I never thought I’d return to the military, but I found myself considering it a year ago. Last spring, I met with a recruiter. In October, I began the process of re-entering military service. It’s a long and complicated undertaking, especially for someone of my age and prior service, and I don’t want to jinx it by revealing too many details. Hopefully, by next spring, you’ll see me wearing real camouflage utilities, instead of just my fashion-y take on military greens and browns.

Jacket, Xhilaration (thrifted). Tee, Mossimo. Pants, Da Nang (consignment). Boots, Lauren Ralph Lauren. Sunglasses, Earthbound Trading Co. Bag, Aldo. Belt, thrifted.

When I presented the idea to Beefy, I expected objections. Instead, his first response was, “We’ll get discounts on Disney tickets. And we can stay at Shades of Green!” (Actually, I just looked up Shades of Green, and any honorably discharged veteran can stay there in September and January. I guess there’s more Disney in my future whether I am accepted or not.)

Blood Red Olive Drab

On November 10th, we celebrated the US Marine Corps’ 241st birthday. I was a Marine for less than five years, and left the service 12 years ago, but I like to recognize the occasion each year. Or maybe I mostly like to play dress up with my service cap. We were required to buy it as a part of our uniform kit, but I never got to wear it!

Jacket and dress, Mossimo. Plaid tunic, Forever 21. Boots, Vince Camuto. Brooch, vintage.

The service cap doesn’t really work for civilian wear, but I do like to pose with it.

The USMC celebrates its birthday with a ball every year. I think my favorite ball was the one I got to attend with my mom, in Okinawa, Japan:

Ooo-rah!

K.I.S.S.

I’m sure you’ll be surprised to hear I can sometimes over think an outfit. Today, I reminded myself to “Keep It Simple, Stupid,” and selected a fit and flare dress, denim vest, leggings, and my favorite western boots.

Vest, Tinseltown (cut from a consignment jacket). Dress, Shein. Leggings, Amour. Boots, Ariat. Sunglasses, Charming Charlie. Bag, Rebecca Minkoff.

In our photography class, on Sunday, our instructors encouraged us to shoot on Manual. (I have a habit of using the Aperture mode.) I used Manual for the jumping shot (above), but it really is much simpler to use Aperture, as I did below. Keepin’ it real. Keepin’ it simple.

Stuck Like Glue

I had an extra long day and, when I got home, I couldn’t shake a little dog shadow for outfit pictures.

Tank, Old Navy. Pants, Da Nang (consignment). Shoes, Nine West. Necklace, thrifted. Bag, Aldo.

We had a good Friday night cuddle.

Cool Head

I just dread hot days. Once I’m overheated, it doesn’t seem to matter how long I spend in a cold salon or blasting the air-conditioning in my car; I just can’t cool off, again. At least we had a hot breeze on this almost 100-degree day.

Shirt, BCBGeneration. Pants, Da Nang (consignment). Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses. Earrings, self made. Bracelet, consignment. Belt, thrifted. Shoes, Franco Sarto.
