Time On My Hands

Dress, Blu Heaven. Hat, Betmar. Owl pendant, Trader’s World. Flipflops, SB. Earrings, No Boundaries.

I arrived at the excerpts location super early, so I took the opportunity to try out my gorilla pod and mess around with my camera.

One Blouse, Two Ways

This was supposed to be “One Blouse, Three Ways,” but I pooped out of Way #2 (trip to the zoo) and took a nap instead.

Way #1: Work

Blouse, Jovovich Hawk for Target. Jacket, Charlotte Russe (overdyed). Jeans, No Boundaries. Slingbacks, Linea Paolo. Jade pendants, Phai’s House of Jade. Mussel pendant, thrifted.

Way #2 (or #3, depending on how you look at it): Excerpts

Blouse, Jovovich Hawk for Target. Jacket, Dex (swap). Skirt, BB Dakota (thrifted). Sandals, Franco Sarto. Headband, selfmade. Jade pendants, Phai’s House of Jade. Mussel pendant, thrifted.

Some previous ways:

Deanna Raybourn

Blouse, Merona. Skirt, Talbot’s (thrifted). Necklace, Newport News. Belt, Claire’s. Bag, Caprice (thrifted and vintage). Shoes, Bongo (thrifted and gifted).

I get a few readers sent my way each week courtesy of deannaraybourn.com. Curious, I checked out the source and found that, in March, she linked to me in the blog portion of her site. Deanna Raybourn is the author of the Lady Julia Gray mystery series. As I am not a fan of mysteries (they make me feel stupid), I had not read her books nor did I plan to do so.

While I was props mistress for a show in May, one of the castmembers remarked that I looked Felicia Day of Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. When I finally got a chance to watch the episodes, I agreed there was a resemblance (although it is limited to the [then] red hair and big eyes). Bored one day, I checked out Felicia Day’s blog and was particularly interested in her post on the books she’s reading. We seemed to have similar taste, so I added a few of her reads to my hold list at the library.

The first book, Armed & Magical, was as awful as the title suggests. The second book, was the start of the Lady Julia Gray series: Silent in the Grave. To my surprise, I’m enjoying it. And, so, it all comes full circle.

(I skipped Felicia’s recommendation of the Kate Daniels series. I’d read Magic Bites on Amazon’s recommendation and did not enjoy it.)

Mary Quant

Dress, Sele. Cardi, Moda International. Shoes, Nine West. Necklace, Target. Purse, Naturalizer (thrifted and vintage).

This outfit had a mod, Mary Quant feel to it: the short skirt, sweet collar, and graphic black and white scheme.

The necklace is the same one I wore to trivia a few Tuesdays ago. I doubled it today. It just sort of landed this way and stayed after I looped it around my neck twice.

Lollipop

Dress, To the Max. Scarf, California flea market. Necklace, Forever 21. Peeptoes, NY & Co. Studded cuff, Hot Topic.

I’m not sure how I managed it, but my head looks about 1.5 times too large for my body in the lead photo. I must have a telescopic neck.

Saddlebags

Saddlebags, M-Wave Day Tripper Double Pannier.

This entry isn’t about what I wore, but my bike’s newest accessory: saddlebags! Because I’m carless, I make my shopping trips on the bus or my bike. I don’t mind biking with a backpack of goods when the temperatures are cool, but wearing a bag on my back is sweaty and uncomfortable when it’s hot out. I test drove my new bags with a shopping trip just after taking the photo. They performed well.

I readily admit that I drive like an old lady, but I ride my bike like a crazy mo fo. Seriously, I’m hell on two wheels. I feel even crazier without a backpack. I am pretty reckless when crossing driveways and intersections.

My friend Erin gave me these New Balance shoes. They are much spiffier than my usual athletic shoe. The rest of my outfit isn’t worth mentioning.

Crashin' the Fashion

Dress, vintage, thrifted, and shortened. Tank, Express. Jacket, Forever 21 (embellished). Pumps, Wild Diva. Earrings, self-made. Purse, thrifted.

I “made” these earrings. That means I threaded the pendants onto ear wires.

A young man on the bus this afternoon told me I was “crashin’ the fashion.” I’ve not heard that phrase before. I’m assuming it was a compliment.

Fugly

Dress, Jams World (thrifted). Belt, thrifted. Sandals, Aerosoles. Earrings, Target. Sunnies, Rampage.

I picked this dress up while thrifting with Londyn. It is so hideously garish that I couldn’t resist adding it to my cart. The Honolulu-made dress was perfect for an almost tropical afternoon at Trader’s World.
