March Purchases

It was a month for accessories. (And a month for four of favorite stores!)

Target

1. Xhilaration Orange Neon Pearl Top Handle Handbag, $19.99
2. Xhilaration (but the tag says “Mondani”) Yellow Crossbody bag, $24.99

Payless

3. Lela Rose for Payless Clarendon Wedge in Blue, $29.99 (I used a discount code to get 25% off!)

Haven’t gotten to wear these babies, yet!

Walgreen’s

I love love love Walgreen's. When I'm having a bad day at work, a quick trip around the block to the Walgreen's makeup department always cheers me up. It's also my #1 pick for a sugar high. (I can always count on Walgreen's to carry Papas eggs at Easter time.) I picked up these sunglasses (along with a bottle of bright coral Essie polish and Lemon Head almonds), when we stopped at a Walgreen's for Beefy's photo prints.

4. Purple sunglasses, $9.99

TJ Maxx

5. Jones New York sunglasses, $9.99. (I totally regret these…they are boring.)
6. Nine West coral and beige bag, $29.99

March total: $124.94 (I was doing well with my budget for the month until I went to TJ Maxx on the 28th.)

Total spending for the year: $380.92

Fresh Color

I love it when my hair color is fresh. It makes other colors seem vibrant by association.

Jacket, Esley. Tee, The Limited. Trouser jeans, Express. Bag, Nine West. Shoes, Two Lips. Socks, Stocking Diva. Earrings, Target (gift from Beefy). Necklace, vintage.

Floating in Flowers

Every spring, I want my picture taken among these cherry blossoms. However, since I have not yet mastered the art of floating in mid-air, it’s a challenge to get my outfit and the flowers in the frame. Last year, I made Beefy sit on the damp grass to get a good angle. This year, I risked life and limb, teetering on the edge of a wall. Still, floating would be better.

Dress, vintage, swapped, and shortened. Sweater, Laura Leigh Ltd. Bag and shoes, Nine West. Brooch, self-made. Bracelets, Target, Claire’s, Mix It, and World Market. Sunglasses, Jones New York.

I’m seriously considering purchasing a mini-trampoline, just for settings like this one. Of course, I’d have to remove the heels. But maybe I could finally achieve at least the illusion of hovering in mid-air, surrounded by blossoms.

Last year and this year:

Guinness

When it comes to all neutral ensembles, black and tan might be my favorite color combo. I don’t drink Black and Tans, though. I prefer my Guinness undiluted.

Sweater, Ann Taylor Loft. Skirt, Ann Taylor (thrifted). Shoes, Gianni Bini. Bag, Fossil (gift). Scarf, so old I don’t remember (I bought it circa 1999). Sunglasses, Jones New York. Earrings, Pangaea. Woven bracelet, Garden of the Gods gift shop. Peacock print bracelet, Claire’s. Watch, Raymond Weil.

Thai One On

Many of my button-front shirts are roomy in the waist. For a sleeker look, I can add a belt, tuck the ends into a fitted bottom, or tie the shirttails together. I have to vote for the knotted tails as the most comfortable and practical solution!

Shirt, Old Navy. Skirt, Thailand. Shoes, thrifted. Bag, Fossil (gift). Necklace, Macy’s. Bracelets, Epcot Morocco. Sunglasses, Xhilaration. Jacket, H&M (thrifted).

Novelty Print

Evidently, novelty (or conversational) prints are trending. Horses, cats, birds, and insects seem to be the most popular animals to be printed on clothing this spring. But I still love my dog-portrait skirt.

Shirt, American Eagle (thrifted). Skirt, Herman Geist (vintage and shortened). Belt, thrifted. Shoes, Fioni. Bracelets, vintage and Garden of the Gods gift shop. Cuff, Target. Earrings, self-made. Bag, Fossil (gift).

My skirt has never started a conversation, though. Well, other than the recurring one where Beefy expresses his dislike* for the print.

*Okay, I start that conversation, not Beefy. And it usually goes like this:

“I’m wearing your favorite skirt!”
“Ugh. The dog skirt?”
“Yup!”
“Why?”
“Because it’s cute!”
"It's really not my favorite."
"I know."

Stimulating, eh?

SOCKS

The first thing you notice about this outfit is the SOCKS, right?

I kind of love funky, knee-high socks.

Jacket, London Jean. Dress, No Boundaries. Belt, thrifted. Socks, Reebok. Boots, Dan Post. Earrings, Walgreen’s. Bag, Mondani.
