Not Quite the Worst Give Away Ever

The randomly and impartially selected winner of the skirt give away is:

juneyeta

The selection was serendipitous as juneyeta wrote: “I have MANY of the same pieces and GORGEOUS shoes as you.” So the skirt should fit right in with the rest of her wardrobe.

Thanks to everyone for playing along.

Yankee Swap

Jacket, Forever 21 (swap). Tank, YS USA (swap). Skirt, Parallel (swap). Shoes, Nine West. Bag, Deux Lux (it’s my new favorite). Studded choker worn as a bracelet, thrift. Brooch (on back of jacket), SAC (thrift).

My swapped items aren’t actually from a Yankee Swap, but from a Wardrobe Swap Shop swap. (Well, three Wardrobe Swap Shop swaps.)

Continuing with the thrifty theme, my accessories are all secondhand or sale items. This isn’t a $20 outfit, but it certainly is an under $50 outfit.

I’m using this thrifted Sarah Coventry brooch to adjust the waist of my jacket. This is one of my favorite tricks for cinching blazers and cardigans.

This tank has an attached “necklace.” It’s my first piece of clothing with built-in jewelry. I think I’m okay with the concept.

I was initially going to wear a solid black blazer (also a swap), but I like to clash.

Speaking of clashing…

Hello, Sammy!

Dress, Lipstick. Tank, Kimchi & Blue. Belt, Luxury Divas. Shoes, BCBGirls. Ring, G&S. Earrings, No Boundaries. Bag, Deux Lux. Cat, Sammy.

Sammy wanted to be in the pictures today. Usually, once I’ve picked them up and forced them to be photographed, my cats run away. (I believe Hillary calls this “squeezing the love out.”) Not so with Sammy. He stayed nearby and snuck into a few more shots. Can you spot him?

I’m afraid the back of my hair is still wet in that second photo. And there is no Sammy in the third. He’s behind the camera (pressing the shutter button!).

Spidey

Dress, London Times. Belt, consignment shop. Booties, Sigerson Morrison for Target. Ring, Rafia & Bossa. Bag, Apt 9.

This headband looks (and sort of feels) like a big spider on my head. Every time one of the feathers blows into my eyes, I have to remind myself it is not a spider leg.

Summery

Hat, Cappell’s. Cardi, Old Navy. Dress, Frederick’s of Hollywood. Necklace, thrifted. Sandals, Ecote.

A summery outfit for a trip to the vet and the cemetery. (No worries - my pet, Sammy, did not go to the cemetery.)

37 Days Later

It’s been 37 days since I got my New Hair. I’m always curious to see how a cut and color will look when it’s no longer fresh. Aren’t you?

Finally, you can see my incredible roots.

Granted, the lighting conditions are different, my hair is professionally styled (and clean) in the “before,” and I didn’t exactly duplicate the poses. However, you get an idea of what 37 days of regrowth looks like.

I’m glad my next appointment is on Wendesday.

P.S. Many of you have asked about my wardrobe colors with my New Hair vs the Old. I intend to prepare a post, with pictures, once I have enough photographic evidence.

Urban Outfitters

Dress, No Boundaries. Hat, Charlotte Russe. Necklace and cuff, Urban Outfitters. Flip flops, SB. Bag, Deux Lux.

A little birdie told me that Urban Outfitters was having a 50% off sale. That’s 50% off of already marked down items. Here’s what I got:

Flip flops, Ecote. Plaid shirt, Urban Renewal. Purple cardi, Silence + Noise. Bag, Deux Lux. Tank, Kimchi & Blue.

I’m actually wearing that last shirt backwards. The rose embellished neckline is too pretty to be worn where I can’t see it.

The last thing I bought was not 50% off, but it was 100% awesome: a glass hand!

Good for scaring children or holding rings.

Muted Hawaiian

Dress, Charlotte Russe (free). Sweater, Forever 21. Scarf, TJ Maxx. Sandals, Aerosoles. Bag, No Boundaries. Cuff, Urban Outfitters.

I’m ushering again and took the opportunity to wear this dress I got for free from The Drama Workshop. The weather is unseasonably cool, and I’m standing outside to man the elevator, so I layered up.

Owl Badge

Blouse, Merona. Sweater vest, Karen Scott. Jeans, Gap. Pumps, Delicious. Bag, Nicole Lee. Owl brooch, swap.

I’ll go directly from work to usher, again. I don’t have a bow tie to indicate my usher status. Instead, I have a very official looking owl badge. Not that owls have anything to do with Sunshine Boys or Mariemont Players. But you must admit the owl has an authoritarian look to it.

Skirt, American Eagle. Sandals, Franco Sarto.

I don’t have a close-up of the owl. I’ll add one this weekend. In the meantime, you can enjoy a crappy webcam pic and some photoshop fun:

Edited on 7/18 to add owl brooch close-ups.

He's made of felt with embroidery, sequins, and rhinestone eyes.
