Dracula and Dancing Pigs

Tuxedo jacket, Odds ‘n Evens (thrifted). Dress, Forever 21. Tights, Danskin. Lace-up pumps, Isaac Mizrahi for Target. Earrings, Claire’s or Icing. Bag, Apt 9.

Although my birthday is on Sunday, I sort of celebrated tonight. I met my buddy Erin for Dracula, performed by the Cincinnati Ballet. We followed that up with bluegrass performed by the Cincinnati Dancing Pigs at Arnold’s. I was lucky enough to be brought on stage for the BOD song (and a picture to go on the Pigs’ website). With the time change, I don’t think I was out until my actual birthday, but it was still a late night for a homebody like myself.

And….gratuitous kitty pics:

Crazy Dancer

Sweater, Juicy Couture (via swap). Tunic, Trinity. Leggings, JW. Boots, Target.

One of the great things about dance class is that you can wear the most random layers and no one will look twice. Well, they might look twice, but the glances will be admiring, not critical. While I lived in Arizona, I danced at a strict studio that required even the adults to wear pink tights, pink shoes, and black leotards. Hair had to be in a bun. We weren’t allowed to wear skirts or shorts over our leotards. No fun at all. At the Cincinnati Ballet classes, I see people in all sorts of random outfits and I’m happy to participate.

(These aren’t exactly dancey photos, but they are certainly random. And the boots came off for class.)

15 Dollar Tunic

Pocketed tunic, Trinity (via 15 Dollar Store). Leotard, vintage. Capri tights. Ballet slippers, Bloch.

I’ve recently discovered the 15 Dollar Store for clothing. Guess how much each item costs? I received my first order in the mail today. Because the sizing is juniors, and there are no returns or exchanges, I went a size up on everything. I recommend doing the same if you aren’t “junior.”

I’ll review each item as I wear it. This tunic is probably worth about $15, or less, so it wasn’t a steal, but I love the color, trim, and pockets. I wore it as a cover up for ballet, but ended up leaving it on for the entire class because I forgot my dance skirt.

A little more on my ballet togs…when I first started ballet, in college, I couldn’t afford new dancewear, so I got a couple of leotards from the thrift store. Fourteen years later, I’m still wearing them. I love the retro styling and shiny fabric. They no longer have much “hold,” so I wear a mesh leotard beneath. The colors are still bright and the fabric smooth, though. They made some good leotards back in the 80’s.
