MAC
I wasn’t really digging today’s outfit, but the background was groovy. This is the entrance to the Madisonville Arts Center, where we are performing. An art show was wrapping up when we arrived for pre-rehearsal pictures, so I was dodging people traffic (and amusing the patrolling cop) as I posed here. You’d never know it was a busy place from the pictures. (Although you can see some passers-by reflections in the first photo.)

Dress, London Times. Vest, Forever 21. Shoes, Lipstick. Bag, Massini. Cuff, Urban Outfitters. Sunglasses, Girl Props. Belt, Banana Republic. Earrings, Claire’s. Chain, vintage. Pendant, thrifted.

Stage Glow
The incomparable Mikki Schaffner has taken some production photos of A Piece of My Heart. Do you recognize my costumes?

Stage photography is difficult. The lighting is intense and actors have this annoying tendency to move around. Next, add a very white actress with flaming red hair in a pale dress and have her stand in the hot spot of an ungelled light against a black background:

Beefy said I “glowed like an avenging angel.”
(Don’t worry, the light is now gelled and the hair should fade a bit by opening night.)
You can see all of Mikki’s terrific photos here, along with guest appearances by my cowboy and combat boots (on other people’s feet) and my white belt (around Megan’s waist).
Come see the show!

Fiery
I wore bright red to celebrate my last day as a blonde. On my first day as a redhead, I wore plum and teal to play up my new color.

Jacket, Esley. Skirt, Longview, WA 4th of July flea market. Shoes, Delicious. Bag, Massini.

Filler
It was a pain to go from red to blond. The reverse wasn’t quite as bad, but still took three hours. The first step was to “fill” the blond with color. My stylist says the filler is always this lovely orange shade:

No worries, we dyed over this. (I kind of liked the orange, though.) Stay tuned for pictures of the finished product.

Bye Bye, Blondie
It’s my last day as a blonde. This shirt arrived from the 15dollarstore last night and I wanted to pair cherry red with my platinum blond hair one more time.

Blouse, Romeo & Juliet Couture. Dress, Jones New York. Bracelet, Mod Cloth. Belt, Wet Seal. Jacket, Forever 21 (overdyed). Shoes, Audrey Brooke.

Castle of Air
I’m terrible with names. If I can’t remember yours, I make one up. And my made-up name is the one that sticks. I think of today’s photo location as the House of Glass, but it’s actually the Castle of Air. Whatever you call it, I don’t recommend throwing stones.*

Top with detachable necklace, swap. Skirt, Mossimo. Booties, Madden Girl. Sweater, Express (via swap). Umbrella, Totes. Earrings, Pangaea. Slave ring and bracelet, G&S.

A rare Beefy Muchacho sighting:

*Well, maybe you could throw stones. The Castle is made of stainless steel. But I don't think the Parks Dept would appreciate you denting the mirrors.

Savings Summit
As you can imagine, I had a lot of anxiety around what to wear for the Locals On Living Savings Summit. I was one of two presenters at the Heels and Steals session, talking about how to get more out of your wardrobe for little or no money.
I decided on my faux Missoni dress because it is an old favorite and my band sweater because it is a new favorite. I chose owl earrings because they have become my signature animal. I wore a Mickey Mouse watch and carnival glass ring for the Beefy Muchacho.
Beefy questioned my choice of neutral shoes, because I’m known for my brightly colored footwear. However, comfort and functionality were the footwear priorities of the day. I compensated with a brightly colored purse.
Sweater, The Limited. Dress, Lipstick. Slingbacks, Linea Paolo. Earrings, self-made. Watch, Disney. Ring, vintage. Bag, Nicole Lee.
If you weren’t able to attend the summit, you can catch up on the details, at Cincinnati.Com’s blog coverage of the event. Scroll down to the Heels and Steals entry to watch a brief video summary of our session and to download the presentations.

Tish Tosh
I took a break from Dirty Navy Week and wore this graphic ensemble to see Daniel Tosh perform in Dayton. Perhaps I shouldn’t have pre-gamed it with a Corona. By the time the comedian came on stage, and I’d had a “required” drink at the venue, I was ready to sleep, not laugh. Damn, I’m old.

Tunic (worn as a shirt) and belt, Wet Seal. Skirt, thrifted, shortened, and dyed. Boots, Dan Post. Zipper bracelet, Urban Outfitters. Leather cuff, Epcot Canada. Mushroom ring, Rafia & Bossa.
Further evidence of my advancing years: I was mildly offended by the skimpy outfits some of the girls were wearing to the show. I wanted to tell them, in my best granny voice, that they didn’t have to put it all out on display. But I was guilty of the same thing, myself, back in my clubbing days.

Riverside
While on our way to the Basilica last week, Beefy and I missed the turn to the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge and ended up at Longworth Hall. There, we found three walls of murals. We returned today for photos in front of the riverside-themed piece.

Vest, McGregor (thrifted). Dress, Merona (shortened). Tank, Merona. Shoes, Delicious. Bag, Colini Handbags (thrifed). Chain necklace, thrifted. Bamboo bracelets, Garden of the Gods gift shop. Gold-toned bracelet, swap.

WAC
I’ve finally gotten around to researching some of the unfamiliar terms in A Piece of My Heart. I now know what the WAC is and how to pronounce “Pleiku.”

Vest, Forever 21. Dress, No Boundaries. Flower brooches, self-made. Shoes, Van Eli (thrifted). Bag, Payless. Feather print bangle, Body Central. Brass bangle, World Market. Earrings, Pangaea.

Steal My Sunshine
It’s another rotten weather day. I sat in a basement most of the day, with no windows, but was still acutely aware of the drizzle. I had to make my own sunshine with a bright jacket.
Jacket, blouse, and bracelet, Forever 21. Skirt, Andre Oliver (thrifted and shortened). Shoes, Antonio Melani. Bag, Caprice (thrifted and vintage).

Amusing kitten story to brighten your day: Walt has become overly interested in the insoles from my galoshes. It is too funny to see him stuff his fat body into my boot, pull out the insole, and run off with it. (He “disembowels” the insoles in the kitchen.) He is a little monster!
I had to wear those galoshes, again, today. Boo.
