Petite Cherie

I have a respectable perfume collection, but I often forget to wear any. When I do remember, I choose a scent that matches my outfit or the weather or my mood or maybe the occasion. Today, it was Annick Goutal’s Petite Cherie to compliment the sweet pastels in this checked shirt and the bow at my wrist.

Button-front shirt, Eddie Bauer (thrifted). Dress, Merona (shortened). Tights, We Love Colors. Booties, Madden Girl. Rhinestone cuff, Birch Hill. Faux pearl cuff, Forever 21. Bag, Simply Vera (gift).

Savings Summit

As you can imagine, I had a lot of anxiety around what to wear for the Locals On Living Savings Summit. I was one of two presenters at the Heels and Steals session, talking about how to get more out of your wardrobe for little or no money.

I decided on my faux Missoni dress because it is an old favorite and my band sweater because it is a new favorite. I chose owl earrings because they have become my signature animal. I wore a Mickey Mouse watch and carnival glass ring for the Beefy Muchacho.

Beefy questioned my choice of neutral shoes, because I’m known for my brightly colored footwear. However, comfort and functionality were the footwear priorities of the day. I compensated with a brightly colored purse.

Sweater, The Limited. Dress, Lipstick. Slingbacks, Linea Paolo. Earrings, self-made. Watch, Disney. Ring, vintage. Bag, Nicole Lee.

If you weren’t able to attend the summit, you can catch up on the details, at Cincinnati.Com’s blog coverage of the event. Scroll down to the Heels and Steals entry to watch a brief video summary of our session and to download the presentations.

Riverside

While on our way to the Basilica last week, Beefy and I missed the turn to the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge and ended up at Longworth Hall. There, we found three walls of murals. We returned today for photos in front of the riverside-themed piece.

WAC

I’ve finally gotten around to researching some of the unfamiliar terms in A Piece of My Heart. I now know what the WAC is and how to pronounce “Pleiku.”

Steal My Sunshine

It’s another rotten weather day. I sat in a basement most of the day, with no windows, but was still acutely aware of the drizzle. I had to make my own sunshine with a bright jacket.

Jacket, blouse, and bracelet, Forever 21. Skirt, Andre Oliver (thrifted and shortened). Shoes, Antonio Melani. Bag, Caprice (thrifted and vintage).

Amusing kitten story to brighten your day: Walt has become overly interested in the insoles from my galoshes. It is too funny to see him stuff his fat body into my boot, pull out the insole, and run off with it. (He “disembowels” the insoles in the kitchen.) He is a little monster!

I had to wear those galoshes, again, today. Boo.

Muddy Buddy

My first instinct is to pair navy with bright white and true red. The combination is clean, crisp, and summery…but predictable. Since the weather this week will be anything but clean, crisp or summery, I’m pairing navy with muddier shades: brown, mustard, olive, rust, and plum. Adding just a dash of red and white keeps the palette from the doldrums.

Shirt, NY & Co. Skirt, Side x Side (thrifted, shortened, and embellished). Belt, Banana Republic. Shoes, Miss Me. Necklace, World Market. Bag, vintage. Watch, Disney.

At left: A more traditional palette with navy. At right: Today’s inspiration palette.

I don’t want to mislead you into thinking that I fit all my gear into a tiny purse. I had a lot of crap to haul in today, including my fabric-covered, floral shoes. (I wore my galoshes in the rain.) It took a total of three bags to get my stuff in to work.

These shoes stay far, far away from mud puddles.

Speaking of mud, I tripped and fell about halfway through my 5 mile run this morning. I only damaged my skin (and my pride), but I wonder what people thought when they saw me jogging along, covered in dirt and scratches, oozing blood from one knee.
