IRL

It’s tough to capture the elegant drape of this dress in a still image. Instead, it tends to photograph as a green trash bag. I suppose that all that matters is that I feel like a million bucks when I wear it.

Similarly, I don’t think my photo of our sushi roll dinner looks nearly as delicious as it tasted. I guess some things are just better IRL.

Incognito

When I wear a hat AND sunglasses, I feel as if I’m in disguise. Masking my identity. Hiding from the world. But all I’m hiding are my greasy roots and squinty eyes. I think everyone knows it’s me from my kooky outfits.

Moss

After I’d given up on finding a long-sleeved, silk dress, this one popped up in Nordstrom’s half-yearly sale. I’m hoping I get as much use out of this frock as I have from my Parker dress.

Silk Camo Pants

I’ve been hesitant to wear these pants to work. Although the fabric is silk, the print, cut, and details seemed too casual for customer visits. I finally threw caution to the wind and wore them for sales calls on a Friday.

Blouse, Maeve (consignment). Pants, Da Nang (consignment). Shoes, Enzo Angiolini. Sunglasses, Target. Earrings, vintage. Bag, Colini Handbags (thrifted). Bracelets, Epcot Morocco.

Once I committed to wearing these in a more formal situation than usual, I was quite comfortable. There’s nothing like neck to ankle silk on a 100 degree day!

Cocktail Shorts

In the late 90’s, I wore some skankalicious outfits to the clubs. Despite my total lack of taste, I was scandalized when a girl in my group wore shiny athletic shorts with heels out dancing. I made endless fun of her outfit, but it turns out she was ahead of her time. Cocktail shorts are “it” right now. (At least I think so.)

Below, I’m the skank on the left, the visionary in shorts is in the middle, and my regular clubbing buddy, Julie, is no doubt wearing head to toe Bebe on the right.

Lester

School will be out in three weeks, but, in the meantime, I can’t resist this elementary school for outfit shots. It has the best backgrounds and is right by my house. Dodging late-working teachers and the children who return to play, I feel like a total creeper. (But, obviously, that feeling doesn’t stop me from lurking in the corners and shadows with my camera, tripod, and remote.)

I'm So Over You

Fashion experts have been proclaiming the death of the neon trend for a few seasons, now. This time, I believe it.

Neon was among the trends Alison suggests retiring for 2014. Also on the “out” list: bubble necklaces, chevron stripes, sock buns and topknots and barbie hair, peplum, and arm parties. I’ve dabbled in them all but the bubble necklace. I’m not ready to give up the neon, but I am so glad to see that Ali predicts “barbie hair” is on its way out. I prefer a cut that highlights a woman’s hair density and texture over the phony look of extensions and a curling wand any day. What trends are you happy to see go?

J Street

I don’t spend a lot of time in downtown Sacramento. Most of my “city” customers are in midtown. So it’s rare that I get a chance to park at J and 8th and spend a few hours downtown.
