Happy Birdday

Beefy’s birthday was a birding extravaganza. We started the day with sunrise donuts at the American River among various waterfowl. I then headed to swim practice and he returned to the river to take pictures (trying to identify a mystery duck!). After lunch, we went to Cosumnes and then Yolo for more bird fun.

The birding highlight was perhaps the giant flock of pelicans we spotted at Cosumnes. We also saw other new-to-us species like the yellow-rumped warbler (also known as the “butterbutt”), pintails, and the red-winged blackbird.

I See Flowers

Being new to the area, I’m hesitant to say that spring is here, but the bushes and trees are blooming and this field is a sea of yellow flowers.

Love

I felt kind of lame that I didn’t wear a themed outfit for Valentine’s Day, until I saw the Prabal Gurung for Target commercial this evening and learned that the collection was called “Love.” So I’m festively dressed, after all, in two pieces of Love, the tee and the pumps.

Creative Formal

Mostly, I’m dressing business creative these days. Today’s look was a bit more formal with the rhinestone collar, tux jacket, and cummerbund (obi belt).

Close One

Lately, I’ve been ruthlessly adding to the “donation bag” in my closet. If, after a few tries, I can’t get a piece to work, in it goes! This blazer narrowly escaped the bag this morning. It’s probably safe until next fall, when I try to style it again.

Sans Souci

When I tried these shorts on at TJ Maxx, I happened to be wearing this blouse and loved how they paired together. It only makes sense, since they are both by the same label.

Some Adjustment Required

This is not a skirt for getting in and out of the car a dozen times. Exiting, it splits and I’m thankful for the slip. Upon standing, I have to rearrange the waist wrap ties. (They creep up in back, while the skirt itself sags.) When it’s time to get back in the car, I use the “controlled fall method” to get my upper body, skirt, and legs tucked inside the vehicle. Still, you’ll see me wear it again on a day of sales calls. It’s just too beautiful to let languish in my closet.

Cherry Bomb

Sometimes I think that I can get away with my public self-portraits without attracting too much attention. That’s pretty much a lost cause when I’m draped in a bright red poncho.

Red Clash

This outfit has been jotted down in my idea book since last winter. Today, I was ready to wear clashing plaids, but I hesitated with the clashing reds (“natural” red hair, “unnatural” red hair, and true red). Then, I got over it.
