Four things keep me going on my long runs:
1. iPod – I listen to all the songs on shuffle
2. Water – I carry a hand-held water bottle and refill it every 4 miles
3. Energy gel – I consume a packet of gel every 4 miles
4. Beefy – he meets me every 4 miles to supervise my gel consumption, refill my water bottle, and give me encouragement*.
*At least I think that's what he's saying. It's hard to hear him over my iPod.

I wondered why you never respond to my suggestive comments. The iPod explains it.
I went to the gym this weekend and reclaimed my love for running. The longest I've ever run is 3 miles :) MIght not ever make it farther than that, but I do enjoy it.
I've always wondered how people who run long distances stay hydrated. So, do you carry a regular ol' water bottle in your hand, or do you have some sort of special container? I always thought that carrying a water bottle would be awkward or annoying, or that the hand holding it would become sweaty and the bottle would be dropped a lot.
Jen - I carry a water bottle that sits inside a case meant for holding in your hand while you run. You can see it in this post:

Aha! Thanks for pointing that out!
