This Desert Life

This barren patch of land between Howe Avenue and the American River is a mini-desert. I like its austerity, power towers, and view of downtown Sacramento. This time, I took a picture of the background on purpose.

Hot to Trot

I don’t want to be just another style blogger complaining about the weather, but . . . “Damn! It’s hot!*” I couldn’t bear to wear anything but cotton or silk in the heat, so I was prompted to make a small fix to this dress (one of the epaulettes had come loose) and trot it out at least once more this season.

Dress, Suzi Chin for Maggie Boutique. Obi belt, Sugadaminka. Shoes, Sole Obsession. Sunglasses, Sol. Earrings and bag, Charming Charlie.

*How hot is it? Well, it’s so hot that I am quite obviously pitting out in these photos. Sexy. Even sexier: my sweaty back (not pictured).

That's So Cali

If you’ve never heard of Jack’s Urban Eats, it is sort of like Chipotle, but replacing burritos with salads and adding a carving station and garlic fries. Totally California. (Also “California:” u-turns, frozen yogurt, and dogs.) Fittingly, artist Ted Weldon painted a Californian beach scene on the wall of the downtown Sacramento Jack’s.

Interloper

I was trespassing in the train yard, when I saw a railroad bull headed for me. Hopeful that he wouldn’t kick me out, I reverted to my trick of taking pictures of the background (in this case, trains). As he drew closer, I realized he was wearing simple work clothes, not a uniform, and he was trespassing himself. I continued to squint at my camera and occasionally press the shutter and I accidently caught his outfit! So, today, you get a two-fer.

Nothing To See Here

When I’m caught taking my own picture in public, I usually rush to the camera and pretend to be taking a picture of the background. I’ve had quite a few passers-by squint at the field of view, shake their heads, and continue on. Once, though, I had someone stop to discuss the artistic merits of the pillars supporting the I-80 Yolo bypass.

This view of a swampy arm of the American River and the underside of I-5 isn’t quite as aesthetically pleasing. I’m glad no one stopped to ask what was so interesting that it needed photographing.

Lady in Red

When I first started blogging, there was a small group of readers that insisted I was a man. I assume my very feminine clothing choices made my gender suspect. This is the sort of get-up that would have folks inspecting my Adam’s apple.

Triple Tassel

If one tassel is good, three are better. Or I guess six, if you count the individual tassels: two earrings, two dangling from my sleeves, and two attached to my brooch. Tasselmania.

Jacket, Urban Vibe (swap). Dress, Banana Republic (consignment). Shoes, BCBGeneration. Sunglasses, Target. Earrings and brooch, vintage. Bracelets, Charming Charlie and Tala’s Distant Treasures. Bag, Nine West.

Summer Dog Day

Jasper had a great day. We did our morning run, tried a new dog park, picnicked, visited the Good Market, and splashed in the river. I dressed with an active doggie day in mind. (But I wish I had brought sneakers or moccasins for the dog park and river.)

Shirt, Express (thrifted). Skirt, Max Studio. Shoes, Aerosoles. Hat and sunglasses, Target. Earrings, Jack E Ohs NYC. Bag, Happy Cow.

While I snapped pictures, Jasper had fun with sticks in the water:
