Party Gras Poll

I feel as if I’ve been partying all week. After drinking an entire bottle of Veuve Clicquot on Monday (my excuse: I was snowbound!), I spent the rest of the week booked every day from 7 a.m. until 10 or 11 p.m. Mardi Gras is rough.

My favorite Mardi Gras inspired outfit was...
Fat Tuesday
Ash Wednesday
Let the Good Times Roll
Moon Pie

Moon Pie

Erin Fancy Pants attended Mardi Gras in Mobile earlier this week and brought me some souvenirs. Among them were two Moon Pies – chocolate and orange. While Erin personally recommends Moon Pies for breakfast, I found them unbelievably vile.

Cardigan, Merona. Scarf, Old Navy. Tank, Julie’s Closet. Trouser jeans, Express. Booties, Steve Madden Girl. Chain and silver pencil pendant, vintage. Bag, Simply Vera.

Cincinnati, like New Orleans, is a Catholic town. On my first Fat Tuesday in Cinci, my boss brought a king cake into work. Other than the unsanitary and potentially dangerous practice of hiding a plastic “baby” in the cake, I enjoyed that Mardi Gras treat.

Since Reedie jinxed me, my color theme was noticed again today, at work: “You look like a king cake.” Well, that’s a hell of a lot better than looking like a Moon Pie.

Originally, I was going to call this post “Bourbon Street.” I even had a poem to go with the title:

Bourbon Street
Got no feet
Give me something good to eat
Not a Moon Pie
I’m not gonna lie
I’d rather have a Cadbury Crème Egg
In fact, that’s what I had for breakfast
Which is why this poem is so shitty

Well, that’s as far as I got with the poetry. These pants are so long and wide legged, it sometimes looks as if I have no feet. Proof that they are under there:

Let the Good Times Roll

I’m departing from the day-of-the-week titles* and further references to Lent. Instead, I’m wearing feathers in my hair and having a good time.

Jacket, Esley. Blouse, Forever 21. Skirt, Express (thrifted). Necklace, Old Navy. Tights, Danskin. Shoes, Two Lips. Hair clip, self made.

I had too good of a time last night, at Last Call Trivia. I had to Photoshop away my bloodshot eyes and undereye bags this morning.

Reedie asked if my theme weeks are ever noticed at work. I’ve conducted 17 theme weeks and never gotten a comment until today. Must be the Mardi Gras feathers.

I’ve never been to Mardi Gras. Does it involve Feats of Strength, like Festivus?

Although the snow is nearly up to my knees, I can’t help but have a good time tromping through it in my star-print galoshes.

*I was tempted by Thsilly Lithsp Thursday. I have a lisp, myself.

Ash Wednesday

I don’t plan to fast, abstain from meat, or repent, but my Mardi Gras color palette is appropriately subdued today.

Shrug, Express (via swap). Floral tank, Mushka by Sienna Rose. Turtleneck, Mossimo. Peggings, Bongo. Shoes, Isaac Mizrahi for Target. Bag, Liz Claiborne. Tassell, Epcot Morocco. Arrowhead pendants, thrifted.

I’m not sure about the addition of the green bag. The effect is a little jarring. But the green in the floral tank didn’t seem bright enough.

The floral tank is one of my February purchases. It was spendy for a TJ Maxx item: $20.

I’m out of holidays now and have no idea what to title tomorrow’s post. Any suggestions?

Fat Tuesday

Nothing’s better on a “fat” day than a loose dress and an enormous wrap.

Wrap, Newport News. Cardi, Old Navy. Dress, Forever 21. Brooch, my grandmother’s. Tights, Target. Shoes, Wet Seal.

I’m hiding out in here.

Surprise!

Mardi Gras Week

Tuesday is Fat and I’m celebrating by wearing Mardi Gras colors all week.

Whenever I contemplate a color-oriented theme week, I’m initially unsure of whether I have enough of the requisite colors to pull it off. My first step in the planning process is to pull all of the items in the selected shades and pile them on the bed.

Yup, looks like I have enough yellow, purple, and green for the week. (And I didn’t even include the shoes or most of the jewelry!)
