Under the Bridge

You never know what you might find under the bridge. A man, parked in his car, smoking a joint. A shrine made from stones, crayfish claws, and a beer bottle cap. An oddly dressed woman posing for an unmanned tripod.

Coat, Lilli Ann San Francisco (vintage). Sweater, Full Tilt (thrifted). Striped tee, American Apparel. Shorts, Lassie. Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Sam Edelman. Earrings, Claire’s. Bag, Rebecca Minkoff.

I took a picture of the shrine for you and snapchatted the woman (whatiwore2day). The pot-smoker spooked and drove away.

Kid Tested

I hung out with a bunch of kids all day at a nature festival. They probably couldn’t have cared less what I wore, but I wanted to well represent our volunteer organization. I tried to create an outfit that was fun, sporty, modest, and just a half-step up from casual.

Tank, Old Navy. Capris, Arizona Jeans (consignment). Sneakers, Superga. Hat, Charlotte Russe. Backpack, Toms.

I think this outfit would have been perfect with a fox mask, but opted to chat with another volunteer instead of making one.

Stars and Stripes Forever

In the USA, we have a few patriotic weekends approaching. I support showing country pride, but American flag bikinis are a bit too literal, and tacky, for my taste. I prefer a less obvious homage to the stars and stripes (oh, and a bit more coverage).

Jacket, Xhilaration (thrifted). Sweater, Full Tilt (thrifted). Tunic, Urban Behavior (swap). Leggings, Express. Boots, Steve Madden. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses. Earrings, flea market. Bag, Nordstrom Rack.

What’s your take on patriotic apparel?

Seeing Stars

We had a cool, wet, windy Friday and I was glad for another chance to wear my star sweater before summer. (Probably the last wear of this houndstooth sweater skirt, too.)

Jacket, REI. Sweater, Full Tilt (thrifted). Skirt, Outlander (thrifted and gifted). Tights, Me Moi. Boots, Lauren Ralph Lauren. Sunglasses, Coco Sunglasses. Earrings, Stardust Remembered. Bag, Target.

I saw a star of another sort Friday night when Beefy and I watched his friend in her one woman show, Arlington. I might have done a little exploring on the way to the bathroom and found this corner, completely plastered in show posters.

The Stars Are My Destination

Named after a Star Trek character, I was destined to become a sci-fi junkie. Somehow, the two-volume A Treasury of Great Science Fiction made its way onto my bookshelf when I was still in grade school. I read and reread those stories over the years, finding layers I hadn’t registered the first few times and finally making sense of the more esoteric tales. “The Chrysalids” by John Wyndham and Alfred Bester’s “The Stars Are My Destination” were favorites from the first read.

Sweater, Full Tilt (thrifted). Dress, Bebe. Shoes, Chelsea Crew. Sunglasses and bag, Target. Scarf, swap. Earrings, Francesca’s Closet.

Given my history, it’s no surprise that I’m obsessed with The 100 after discovering it on Netflix a few days ago. I suppose it’s a little more post-apoc than sci-fi, but I love both genres.

Carmel Fantasy

If I lived in Carmel-by-the-Sea I’d be fat and broke. The food and shopping are too tempting. I’d hope that, in this fantasy life, I’d at least run the pastries off on the beach.

Sweater, Full Tilt (thrifted). Skirt, Mossimo. Leggings, Allen B. Boots, Style & Co (thrifted). Sunglasses, Meow Meow. Earrings, Pangaea. Bag, vintage. Scarf, consignment.

Excuse me while I continue my fat, broke fantasy in an infinity hot tub.

Coordinated

As much as I love clashing colors and patterns, matchy matchiness still holds appeal for me. I bought this patent purse at an antique mall during our cross-country drive. Now I can match my shiny navy shoes to a shiny navy bag. Today, as a matchy bonus, my hair matches my tights and my ensemble matches the background.

Shrug, Forever 21. Dress, vintage, thrifted, shortened, and embellished. Belt, swap. Tights, We Love Colors. Shoes, Oh Deer! Bag, vintage. Ring, Jan Michaels San Francisco.

I'm a Winner

I’ll admit it: I wore this outfit to showcase my medal. Then I told everyone that I won the race.

Checkered tunic and belt, Wet Seal. Fugly dress, Jams World (thrifted). Running pants (clean, I promise), Reebok. Boots, Target. Hair clip, self-made. Purse, Payless.

Ok, I didn’t win the race. But I finished and got a medal, so I’m a winner.

Let the Good Times Roll

I’m departing from the day-of-the-week titles* and further references to Lent. Instead, I’m wearing feathers in my hair and having a good time.

Jacket, Esley. Blouse, Forever 21. Skirt, Express (thrifted). Necklace, Old Navy. Tights, Danskin. Shoes, Two Lips. Hair clip, self made.

I had too good of a time last night, at Last Call Trivia. I had to Photoshop away my bloodshot eyes and undereye bags this morning.

Reedie asked if my theme weeks are ever noticed at work. I’ve conducted 17 theme weeks and never gotten a comment until today. Must be the Mardi Gras feathers.

I’ve never been to Mardi Gras. Does it involve Feats of Strength, like Festivus?

Although the snow is nearly up to my knees, I can’t help but have a good time tromping through it in my star-print galoshes.

*I was tempted by Thsilly Lithsp Thursday. I have a lisp, myself.
