Ratty Old Thing

During nearly every closet purge, I consider getting rid of this blazer. It’s getting ratty and I suspect it makes me look like a linebacker, but it’s been with me from the beginning of the blog and the start of my business career, so I just can’t bear to let it go. Yet.

Whisky Roses

I’ve been sick for a few days and have gone through an entire box of herbal tea, five lemons, and more whisky than I care to admit. I had to quit the whiskey to go back to work, so I’m relying on the color red to bring the roses to my cheeks.

East Sac Hardware

I wish we could have afforded to buy a home in east Sacramento. If we lived on 48th and Folsom, we could have walked to East Sac Hardware, Trader Joe’s, and Tres Hermanas. Instead, we can walk to Hollywood Nails, Super Savemart, and Donut Time. Those donuts are really really good (and they even have a cronut!) and we have twice the space we could have bought in east Sacramento, so I’ll be content to just visit (and pose with East Sac Hardware’s mural).

Double Denim Friday

If Friday is denim day, then is a double denim day a double Friday? It feels extra Friday-ish since I discovered this new photo spot with a view of the Port of Sacramento.

Birthday Silk

Knowing my love for Nordstrom, Beefy’s dad and stepmom gave me a store gift certificate for my birthday. But when I went to spend it, I couldn’t find anything I wanted at the physical or online store! (First world problems, right?) That gift certificate was burning a hole in my pocket until I headed to the Norstrom Rack and found this Theory dress for less than $70. The dress was the only one in the store and wrinkled enough to discourage less determined buyers. I think it was meant to be.

Other People's Clothes

How I love wearing other people’s clothes! Let me count the ways: blazer, blouse, skirt, and boots. (That’s four.) I do not, however, wear other people’s underwear. Unless you count slips. I am wearing someone else’s slip.

Carelia Inspired

I’ve felt relatively uninspired by style blogs, lately. The popular bloggers seem to wear nothing but J Crew, Loft, and Mod Cloth. (And take their styling directly from these companies.) While the outfits are lovely, they’ve become too much the same.

Angie, of You Look Fab, recently profiled blogger Carelia Moran of My Small Wardrobe and I instantly had a new favorite. I love her playful style and absolute fearlessness.

I also find her body type much more relatable than the model look-alikes who populate the better-known blogs. Carelia is beautiful, but not impossibly leggy or rail thin

I haven’t found anyone as inspiring (and copy-worthy) as Carelia in a long while. Today, I’ve taken my best shot at recreating an outfit she wore earlier this month. She described her look as nautical, but my take is more French mod.

Offsite

We were told we could dress casually for an all day meeting, so, of course, I wear a short pleather skirt, high-heeled hiking boots, and fur-embellished sweater instead of the suggested jeans. My reasoning was this: I wanted to wear something that would have normally been inappropriate for work (the miniskirt) with something too fancy for a casual day off (the sweater). Because that’s not a combination I get to wear often.
