Wait a minute… What’s that I see over there? It’s a Smunchy kitty! I think he needs some snuggles.

Doesn't he have the cutest tummy? We call it his chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream tummy. Not because he's fat from eating ice cream, but because the spot looks like a chunk of dough surrounded by vanilla ice cream.

This is the last of the In Style Summer Mixers inspired outfits.

Summer Mixers - Red and Blue

Denim jacket, Forever 21. Dress, Jovavich Hawk for Target. Belt and beads, Xhilaration. Peeptoe pumps, Mossimo. Faux croc bag, Wilson’s Leather.

I took some liberties with the In Style scheme. Instead of mostly blue and red with a splash of white, I started with a white (actually off-white) base and accented with blue and red. I also skipped the prints and stripes.

I really dislike it when dresses or long shirts tie in back of the waist. Not only does it look juvenile, but it speaks to the laziness of the clothing designer who wouldn’t cut the garment to fit a woman’s body without the self-adjustment of the attached sash. In this case, the dress fits perfectly without the tie, so it is purely decorative. I’m cutting it off.

Summer Mixers - Brown and White

Linen blazer and jersey tank, Forever 21. Slip (lace visible at neckline), thrifted. Skirt, Andre Oliver (thrifted). Peeptoes, Antonio Melani. Paillette necklace, Body Central. Paillette earrings, faux leather headband, and hair stick, Claire’s. Enamel flower pin, thrifted and vintage. Golden purse with seashell detail, Miss Lewis (thrifted and vintage).

This is an inexpensive outfit with pieces mostly from the thrift store, Forever 21, and Claire’s. Even the shoes were cheap ($20 on sale at Dillard’s).

The purse and pin are two of my favorite thrift finds. You can also see that I’ve got my Lazy Girl’s Updo today in anticipation of more humid weather.

This is the picture that almost wasn’t. A thunderstorm was rolling in as I walked home from the bus stop. I went directly to the deck to snap my photos. Between the rain, darkness, and humidity (the camera lens fogged up!), I am amazed I managed to get any decent pictures. The storms (and tornado watches) continued all evening.

I ran at lunch today, in an earlier storm. By the time I got back to work, it looked as if I had already taken a shower (with my clothes on). All the product had washed out of my hair, but it dried okay in our air conditioned building. After a muggy trip home to my humid house and sticky backyard, my hair was no longer “okay.” It began to swell with moisture (and the electrical charge in the air didn’t help either). I took the first picture before it grew to Bozo proportions. The last picture is headless to save you the horror.

Summer Mixers - Coral and Neutrals

Blazer, Charlotte Russe. Jersey dress, The Limited. Gold belt, swap. Capiz shell earrings, Xhilaration. Leaf necklace, Urban Outfitters. Exotic skin purse, Caprice (thrifted and vintage). Leopard wedges, Steven by Steve Madden. Remote control (in right hand), Nikon.

This palette was pretty easy to follow. I’ve got plenty of orange (coral), khaki, gold, and leopard print in my wardrobe. Actually, I was a little amazed I hadn’t already paired this jacket with this dress. Londyn did something very similar with her coral dress last May.

Summer Mixers - Purple and Spice

I am delighted to announce another theme week! Like last June, I was inspired by the In Style summer palette section. Stand by for a week of “Summer Mixers.”

Oxford shirt, NY & Co. Dress (only skirt visible), Dublin (Ohio) Irish Festival. Peeptoe platforms, Wet Seal. Braided leather belt, Wilson’s Leather. Rose ring, Forever 21. Beads, Sonoma. Bag, Isaac Mizrahi for Target. Feathered hair clip, 100 Yen Store.

I had to think long and hard about this one. This shirt is my only truly purple clothing item. I considered pairing it with an orange tee, cardigan, sweater vest, or jersey dress but rejected all those options (and it was just too hot for my orange sweater). I was staring at the dress on the In Style page, wishing I had something like it, when I remembered I had bought this dress at an Irish festival. I’ve only worn it once before because it’s too roomy on top and the skirt is too long. Now I’m considering having it turned into a shorter skirt.

It’s a shame that I so infrequently wear such a super swirling skirt.
