Flat Start

It’s easier to transition from weekend to work week in flats. Hell, everything is easier in flats. Like wrangling my dogs, carrying eight pizzas at once, and eating way too much sugar in one sitting.

Vest, Tilt (cut from a consignment jacket). Dress, Parker. Shoes, Isaac Mizrahi. Sunglasses, no label. Earrings, Stardust Remembered. Bag, Target.

365 catch-up:

Sleepy Jasper. Finishing my skirt for my 40B440. A slice at SnoBites.

40 B4 40: Yes, Yes, No

My 40 B4 40 project is nearly over! I have about a week left. I shared some of my lessons learned in my 10th Toastmasters speech. You can read the text at at Abby Lacey (a fellow 40B440er) or watch my delivery below:

Horsepower

As a sophomore in college, I heard a radio contest that required the contestant to call in and name five cars named after horses. I never heard the answer and obsessed about what those five cars might be for years. This was pre-Google, so I asked my friends and also scanned every model on the road and in parking lots for a horse name. I finally got to: “Mustang, Pinto, Bronco, Colt, and Pony.”

Tunic (worn under the dress), Wet Seal. Dress, Under Skies (consignment). Shoes, Chelsea Crew. Sunglasses, no label. Bag, Target.

Now, if you Google the list, you’ll see the Mustang, Pinto, Bronco every time. The Colt is often forgotten, and the Pony never appears. I was pretty lucky to spot a Pony, since I don’t think it was ever exported to the U.S. It must have snuck down from the Canadian border, only 50 miles away.

I don’t see many Pintos, either, so I thought it noteworthy and 365-worthy.

$9.99 Sunglasses

I’m hard on sunglasses, so I buy the cheapies. And, since I spend very little on them, I embrace the quirky styles. I was alerted to a new sunglasses shop in Davis, full of $9.99 options, and this is one of my new pairs.

Shirt, FY2 (thrifted). Dress, Ella Moss. Boots, Joe’s. Sunglasses, no label. Belt, H&M. Bag, Charming Charlie.

I have to save my pennies for my very expensive athletic club membership. If it weren’t for the Masters Swim coaching, I’d totally do a cheapie gym.

I felt very virtuous for biking to swim practice this evening.

Florals for Fall

Florals? For fall? Groundbreaking.

Crop top, Gracia. Dress, swap. Belt, thrifted. Boots, Franco Sarto (consignment). Sunglasses, Marc by Marc Jacobs. Earrings, Stardust Remembered. Bag, Aldo.

No florals in my 365. Just the train tracks at sunset:

Boy Colors

Blue and brown, paired together, make me think of boys. It’s such a masculine color combination.

Shirt, Banana Republic (thrifted and altered). Dress, Diane von Furstenberg (consignment). Shoes, Enzo Angiolini. Sunglasses, Giselle. Bag, Aldo.

The association probably comes from baby and child clothing, which tend to be very gendered. One of my favorite boys, fur-baby Jackson, always wears brown and blue (eyes).

Pink Fox

I got my first gray hair at 17. We go gray early on my father’s side. At this point, I’m probably closing in on 50% gray. Someday, I’ll be a silver fox. For now, I’ll stick with pink.

Shirt, Forever 21. Skirt, Ann Taylor (thrifted). Shoes, Seychelles. Sunglasses, Giselle. Earrings, street vendor. Bag, vintage.

On an “emergency” run to Ulta, Beefy talked me into a tube of pink mascara to match my brows to my hair.

My post on dyeing my eybrows red is my 4th most viewed page of all time. I prefer makeup for the pink.

Dots and Spots

Polkadots and leopard spots.

Vest, Tilt (cut from a consignment jacket). Dress, Jovovich Hawk for Target. Leggings, Merona. Boots, American Eagle (consignment). Earrings, Charming Charlie. Bag, vintage.

More dots and spots:

Mixing polkadots and leopard is nothing new. Roasting radishes IS. I had no idea they could be eaten any way but raw. I also didn’t know the greens are edible. I tried both for lunch. Over kasha.
