Today, I was touched by fame . . . Beefy and I got to meet the star of 42nd Street at the Modesto Performing Arts Center! (Unfortunately, we didn’t think to get a photo.) Katie is an old acquaintance of Beefy’s and a genuinely nice person. Don’t you love it when talented folks end up being nice, too?

Symmetry and the Dans

The very first play I saw in Cincinnati was How the Other Half Loves at the Showboat Majestic, featuring local actor Dan Doerger. I saw my very last Cincinnati play tonight and it was again at the Showboat Majestic and again featuring, my now friend, Dan Doerger.

Little did I know, back in 2004 that I would also perform on the Showboat Majestic (in Oliver) and that I’d be on stage with Dan Doerger himself in Annie Get Your Gun (although at the Covedale, not the Showboat).

I love the symmetry of the situation and that local theatre bought me together with another Dan (aka Beefy Muchacho).

Columbus

I’ve lived in Ohio for eight years and this is only my second trip to Columbus. Both trips were theatre related. The first time, we headed to the Henri Bendel store at Easton Towne Center to buy a prop (a shopping bag) for a production of Vanities. This time, Beefy and I brought our award-winning excerpt of The Crucible to share at the state community theatre conference.

The Truth is in the Woods

In place of the usual head shots or show stills, The Crucible lobby display features film noir portraits of the characters. The black and white images, created by Julie Hidalgo, perfectly set the mood for an intense, dramatic show.

Premiere

Tonight, Beefy and I opened our show, The Crucible. As director (and assistant director), our work is done. Now, it’s all up to the actors. And they did not disappoint.

Spotted Cat

I’ve been saving this leopard and polka dot mix for just the right occasion. I figured an audition qualified.

This was a fine outfit for singing, but it’s a little tight in the shoulders for dancing. I couldn’t raise my arms much above my shoulders for the tap dance portion of the audition. I don’t think anyone noticed, though. I distracted them with my abysmal tapping and terrified smile.
