Christmas Witch

I feel a little witchy and a little Christmasy in this outfit. Sparkly, striped tights. Pointy-toed black boots. Red velvet. Green beaded necklace. If only I’d thought to pose with a tinsel broom.

Shirt, FY2 (thrifted). Dress, New York & Co (shortened). Tights, Urban Outfitters. Boots, Express. Necklace, World Market. Bag, Fossil (gift). Jacket, Allen B. Brooch, thrifted.

Country Mouse

Today, this country mouse went to the city. I took the BART, because last time I drove to San Francisco I totaled my company car.

Blazer, SO (thrifted). Blouse, INC (thrifted). Skirt, Hauber Sporting Life (thrifted). Boots, Style & Co (thrifted). Necklace and brooch, thrifted.

I wore this outfit expecting a cold, wet, windy walk from Montgomery Station to dinner (and back again). (I had a cape, scarf, and umbrella off camera…a truly country ensemble.) I was surprised with pleasant weather in the afternoon and a ride back to my car in the evening. Still, I was glad to be prepared for the worst the city might throw at me.

The Sequel

At Sequels, I bought yesterday’s mod skirt and today’s poncho. I also bought a really neat amethyst necklace…but I seem to have misplaced it. I hope I find it so that I can bring you the Sequels trilogy, instead of just the Sequels sequel.

Poncho, Tri Collections. Turtleneck, Charlotte Russe. Skirt, No Boundaries (thrifted). Tights, B. Ella. Shoes, BCBGeneration. Necklace, Target. Bag, Fossil (gift).

Mod About Sequels

I keep hearing that the secondhand clothing scene in Sacramento is simply amazing. Unfortunately, I haven’t had much luck thrifting, yet, and I haven’t made it into a Crossroads. But I did manage to pop into Sequels, a consignment store in the Loehmann’s plaza on Fair Oaks Blvd and walked out with a few wonderful finds. This pieced, mod-ish skirt was one of them.

Jacket, H&M (thrifted). Shirt, Worthington. Vest, Changing Scene. Skirt, Harve Benard (consignment). Tights, Hue. Boots, Rampage. Sunglasses, Betsey Johnson. Earrings, Night Owl Crafts. Rings, vintage and heirloom.

I’m not usually a consignment shopper (I’ve been spoiled by thrift store prices) but this store had some unique items I couldn’t pass up. Now, if only I didn’t drive by this store at least twice a week…the temptation is too great!

Save 14th Avenue

Fourteenth Avenue dead ends not far east of Power Inn Road. Along the no-outlet stretch, are signs reading “Save 14th Avenue.” I’m not sure how the plans are going, but, in the meantime, the dead end makes a great place for pictures.

Jacket, The Limited. Dress, London Times (shortened hand-me-down). Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Nine West. Earrings, Claire’s. Sunglasses, Betsey Johnson. Necklace, thrifted. Rings, Black Hills Gold, Puzzrollrings, and vintage. Bag, Fossil (gift).

The “save” is a proposed extension from the dead end to Florin Perkins Road. That sounds nice, actually. I’d give up this picture spot for the extension.

Solid Minority

Reviewing these pictures, I realized that the only solid I’m wearing is my shoes. The sweater, scarf, dress, bag, and even tights are patterned. I’m wearing stripes, leopard spots, paisley, snakeskin, and geometric shapes.

Sweater, H&M. Dress, Muse (gift from a reader). Tights, Target. Booties, Style & Co. Earrings, Claire’s. Scarf, gift from Londyn. Bag, Fossil (gift). Rings, Black Hills Gold and Puzzrollrings.

One Shot

I feel like I need to apologize for posting only one photo of my outfit. (“I’m so sorry! My camera battery died before I got detail shots.”) But there was a time when I regularly posted only one photo and, in fact, was so uneasy about adding more photos to my entries that I polled my readership on the subject. Most wanted multiple photos, so I moved to that format…even though it seemed a bit vain. (As if this blog weren’t already an exercise in vanity.)

Dress, Mossimo. Turtleneck, Old Navy. Tights, unnamed brand from Madame Butterfly. Boots, Rampage. Sunglases, Betsey Johnson. Earrings, a Native American store in the Three Rivers Mall. Necklace, Serket Jewelry. Bag, Fossil (gift). Rings, Black Hills Gold, Puzzrollrings, and vintage.

Vanity aside, I prefer multiple photos to better represent a three-dimensional outfit in a two-dimensional medium. Additional pictures also give me a chance to highlight accessories, color contrasts, pattern mixes, and the background. And sometimes, I just like to show off a good shot. Today, I only got one.

Olive with Pastels

These boots are magical. They bring together colors as disparate as olive drab and soft pastels. I think I could have worked some neon in there, too.

Sweater, Takeout. Turtleneck, Old Navy. Skirt, London Jean. Tights, B. Ella. Boots, Ariat. Sunglasses, Betsey Johnson. Necklace, vintage. Bag, thrifted.

Mod Lilli Ann Coat

I feel like I’ve brought this coat home again. This vintage Lilli Ann coat was made in San Francisco in the 60’s. Somehow, it made its way to the costume closet of The Drama Workshop in Cincinnati. It then migrated a few miles north to my wardrobe and, later, a few thousand west to Sacramento…almost back to San Francisco!

I love the pattern. It’s busy, but the colors are neutral, so it goes with everything:

Well, at least I think it goes with everything. How would you wear a patterned coat?
