Linebacker

Tweedy jacket, The Limited. Tank, Deep Los Anglees. Skirt, Moda International. Pumps, Delicious. Bag, No Boundaries. Necklace, World Market.

(I’m watching Smunchy as he attempts to destroy my artful window treatment. I may be smiling, but I am NOT amused.)

Today, I’m wearing a couple of style blogger favorites. Stephanie owns this jacket (although I’ve not seen her wear it on her blog) and Londyn has both this skirt and these pumps.

Obviously, since Stephanie owns it, this jacket is in good taste, but the strong shoulders can make me feel a bit like a linebacker, especially when it’s buttoned up.

In addition to the very strong shoulder, I tend to avoid the jacket because it seems a bit too staid for my style. This is how I’ve worn it in the past:

I’m sorry the pictures are so awful. I mostly wore this during the first year of my blog, before I had developed any photo or posing skills.

How would you wear it?

Absolutely SUPER combinations (again:). Love the credits given to Stephanie and Londyn...as well as the honest commentary on your "rookie" blog photos and Smunchy's off-camera antics. I look forward to seeing/reading YOUR blog each day. Thanks a million!

I love what you are doing here. I love the color, the textures. I love it... and I don't think you look like a linebacker at all. Wear that awesome jacket!

I really like the jacket but I can see how it might be a bit conservative for your usual style. But I think it's always good to try things out of your comfort zone, even if it's more conservative rather than more daring, right?

How are you lighting yourself in your pics? Not only are your poses better now, but your lighting seems much better too. I can't seem to ever get enough light inside, and I would love some tips.

Thanks for showing old photos. As a new blogger myself, I can only improve myself. (plus I agree with your hair choice, being a fellow redhead!) I have to admit, I have fun posing at work, there are so many places working at a furniture store!
Jacket, I agree with you..but I like how you make it fun and you!

I love that jacket!~ And it's great to be reminded that your photos were not always perfect, I'm in my first year and I am really struggling with picture quality.

Tina - I experiment with lighting all the time! I now have an external flash and a diffuser that I either point at the ceiling or myself. Sometimes, I just use ambient light. Outside, I almost always use the flash as a "fill-in." Before I had the external flash, though, I had pretty good success with my on-camera flash, as long as I didn't get too close. And, getting a remote control really helped so that the camera could moderate the exposure according to the shot with me in it, not a blank wall.

Love the jacket - and I think it looks great with the dark denim jeans!

Thanks for the lighting info. Any change you would be willing to share what kind of camera, flash, and diffuser you have? Also, did your camera come with a remote or was it something you got seperately?

I'm in the market for a new camera right now (dropped mine last week and currently using my blackberry. ugh), so it would be great to explore my options.

I love it with jeans - makes the jacket look so much less formal.

I don't think I would have thought to pair the jacket with the skirt - but it looks amazing!

I have that jacket too. I wore it on Sunday actually with charcoal gray straight skirt above the knee and knee boots. I know kinda conservative looking but I am working on it. ;) I like the combo of light gray and pink would have never thought of that. Thanks for the inspiration.

Tina - I have a Nikon D40. I had to buy a remote, external flash (SB-100), diffuser (cheapo), and tripod separately. Honestly, this camera is an overkill for outfit shots. I used a Canon Powershot before the Nikon and would recommend that brand again (but a model that either comes with or works with a remote). And I totally want a gorilla pod! Check it out on Amazon if you aren't familiar with it.

I think what this outfit need is more hot pink. But I still love it!

The camera that I dropped was my third Canon Powershot. I'll look into getting one with a remote. I've looked at Gorillapods before. My photographer sister recently suggested that I get a Monster pod.

Check it out

I have to agree with some of the others - wearing it with jeans could be the solution, probably with bold colours.

Hi - I just found your blog the other day, and I've read most of your archives. Love it!!

You've inspired me to atleast post 1 outfit a week on my blog.

I have to dress pretty conservatively for my field, but when I wear a more "linebacker-esque" jacket (I also have a nubby tweed number), I like to pair it with a knee-length skirt that flares at the very bottom. (I believe it can be called a trumpet skirt??) The sleekness of the shape of the skirt seems to contrast well with the slightly boxier look of the jacket, and the flare at the bottom is a nice balance to the strong shoulder.

Happened upon your blog by accident, and I am always a fan of individual style. Your pics have given me some ideas as to how to add some more fun and flair to my preppy basics without getting fired! :)
