Midwest Corporate

Working in the beauty industry, surrounded by other creatively dressed people, I’ve forgotten that I dress like a weirdo. Today, I remembered what it was like to work in the Midwest corporate world as the locals in the downtown Minneapolis Starbuck’s line stared at my mishmash of plaid, stripes, and camouflage. I took my weird back to California a few hours later.

Jacket, Allen B. Sweater, Moda International. Skirt, Hauber Sporting Life (thrifted). Tights, We Love Colors. Shoes, American Eagle (Payless). Scarf and earrings, Charming Charlie. Bag, Imoshion.

You made me laugh with your comment of "taking your weird back..."! I can relate; I live in a small, suburban town and at the post office here the weirdo gauge comes out when I come in...lol.

Your story reminds me of whenever I put together anything I find interesting. I always get stares. But I don't mind because I know the like-minded will understand. Those you don't can walk away.

I know how you feel! I work in an art museum, we all push the limit of "does that really go together?" I adore your outfit! Let 'em stare, they're just jealous they didn't think of it first ^_^

I live in MN, so I know all about getting weird looks from people regarding fashion.

But it doesn't matter if your style is weird or polished in Minneapolis - the style there is usually so chill and laid-back that ANYTHING remotely dressy tends to warrant attention.

They probably thought you were gorgeous!

I can relate as I dress like a weirdo and have lived in Minneapolis all my life, but trust me: they're admiring you. Minneapolitans are (secretly) pretty drawn to the zany.

I wish you would bring your weird to Texas, then accidentally leave your skirt here when you went back home. Not that I wouldn't mail it back to you...eventually. :o)

every outfit you say is "for the office," I think- uh, that violates our written dress code three different ways.... sometimes I put on something pink or lime green, look at it, take it off and then just wear gray because after all, that is what "they" want me to wear...

What are the rules of your code? Is no color allowed?
