Gossip Girl

A blazer, button-front shirt, skater skirt, and oxford shoes give off a bit of a schoolgirl uniform vibe. A headband and necktie would have taken it too far. I’ll admit to doing a bit of schoolgirl gossiping. Our sales team only gets together a few times a year. We had a lot of news to catch up on.

Blazer, James Jeans. Shirt, One Star (thrifted). Skirt, Miss Avenue (consignment). Shoes, Chelsea Crew. Necklace, Banana Republic (gift). Umbrella, MOMA.

Pro

I planned a more professional look than usual for some important meetings, today. However, the rain forced me to carry a silly umbrella, cover my sharp blazer with a waterproof layer, and replace my peeptoe oxfords with galoshes. Take all that practical nonsense away, and this is what my outfit would have looked like:

Blazer, Odds ‘N Evens. Dress, Richard Chai for Target. Tights, Madam Butterfly. Shoes, Eileen Fisher (consignment). Earrings, Cuffs. Necklace, Heart Boutique. Bag, Target.

And . . . this is how it looked with the rain gear:

Umbrella, gift. Jacket, H&M (thrifted). Galoshes, TJ Maxx.

I still looked like a pro, right? A pro at staying dry!

Rainsmart

I was rainsmart when I prepared for today. I carried an umbrella. I styled my hair in a humidity-friendly manner. I wore water-proof jacket and boots. And I planned to take my pictures under cover, in the Nut Tree covered bridge.

Jacket, H&M (thrifted). Shirt, Mossimo (thrifted). Dress, Muse (gift from a reader). Tights, Hue. Boots, Rampage. Umbrella, MOMA. Earrings, vintage. Necklace, Emily Lyn Design. Rings, Black Hills Gold and Puzzroll Rings. Watch, Raymond Weil. Bag, Fossil (gift).

Parasol

Today, I carried a parasol. It wasn’t part of a costume or a joke. I used it to keep the sun off my head and shoulders, just as it was intended.

Shirt, Express (thrifted). Dress, Body Central. Sandals, Lela Rose for Payless. Bag, Xhilaration. Parasol, import store. Earrings, Target. Bracelets, Claire’s and Target. vintage and PuzzrollRings.

Saturday was forecast to be 104 and sunny. Instead of hiding in the air conditioning, I braved the sun and heat to catch a part of the free World Choir Games entertainment at Fountain Square. All the undercover seats were taken, so I was happy to have brought my own shade. I quite enjoyed my perch on the edge of the fountain, occasionally being hit with spray.

I think I’ll carry a sunbrella more often!

Freak Flag

I let my freak flag fly most days, but tend to get even freakier at certain venues. I figured the Wyoming Art show was the perfect place to wear some of my favorite (and more eccentric) items all together.

Jacket, Dex (swap). Dress, Jams World (thrifted). Belt, thrifted. Jeggings, Mossimo. Loafers, American Eagle for Payless. Umbrella, MoMA. Earrings, vintage. Necklace, self-made. Bag, Charming Charlie.

I had planned to be extra freaky by wearing my fringed vest instead of the jacket, but the weather wasn’t cooperating. I’ll have to save it for the Tri-State Antique Market next month.

Chasing the Clouds Away

I love fancy umbrellas. I like them to be of sturdy construction with a curved handle. I prefer that they are not compact, so that they can double as a cane or a club. And most of all, I look for a cheery element to chase the (mental) clouds away on a rainy day.

Sky umbrella, Museum of Modern Art. Sweater, Moda International. Blouse, Forever 21. Skirt, thrifted, dyed, and shortened. Bag, Massini. Shoes, Charles David.

Castle of Air

I’m terrible with names. If I can’t remember yours, I make one up. And my made-up name is the one that sticks. I think of today’s photo location as the House of Glass, but it’s actually the Castle of Air. Whatever you call it, I don’t recommend throwing stones.*

Top with detachable necklace, swap. Skirt, Mossimo. Booties, Madden Girl. Sweater, Express (via swap). Umbrella, Totes. Earrings, Pangaea. Slave ring and bracelet, G&S.

A rare Beefy Muchacho sighting:

*Well, maybe you could throw stones. The Castle is made of stainless steel. But I don't think the Parks Dept would appreciate you denting the mirrors.

Salty Girl

I was a bit vexed today to read one woman’s derision of wardrobe blog poses as “catalog.” She suggests ANTM style “high fashion or couture” poses instead. Personally, I’ve avoided much fashion photography inspiration because (a) those poses usually only look good on the very thin and photogenic (and require exacting lighting) and (b) the purpose of wardrobe blog photos is to display the clothes (just as in a catalog). Still, the criticism was rattling around in my head this evening, along with pressure from myself to take more interesting shots, especially as I prepared to go to my photography class. So, the result: you get my take on the Morton’s Salt girl and a poll.

Umbrella, Alexander Julian. Sweater, Mossimo. Tee, Steve and Barry's. Skirt, Billabong. Wellies, TJ Maxx. Earrings, No Boundaries. Salt, Morton’s.

When it rains, it pours.

I’m no longer in the running to become America’s Next Top Model.

Never Enough

Sweater, Bloch. Dress, Jones New York. Tights, We Love Colors. Peeptoes, Bitten. Headband, Forever 21.

Now, some people might think that zebra + feathers + purple = ENOUGH going on in one outfit. Not me. I threw in another black and white pattern.

No, I didn’t actually carry my purse around my neck

And…it was raining, so I needed my umbrella and galoshes.

The roof isn’t leaking...yet.

Perhaps that is now a busy enough outfit for me. However, it isn’t warm enough. With our temperatures predicted to dip to 0 degrees this week, even my bus bundling isn’t enough. To supplement my wool coat, I bought a hooded, puffy vest to wear beneath.

I looked all over the mall for a puffy vest and only found loud colors, wrong sizes, and inadequate puffiness until I got to Deb, of all places. This vest is insanely warm (I was sweating in it above 32 degrees) and works even under a tailored coat. The best part is the hood! No flat hat hair.

There, I've had enough.
