All My Pretty Owls

Hidden Owl “Week” has concluded. I wore many of my owl pieces, but if you’ve been keeping track over the years, you might have noticed a few were missing.

I don’t have these owls any more:

1. I donated the first bag to the thrift store because the size and style were impractical. 2. The owl appliqué fell off my purple purse and was lost. 3. I did such a terrible job hemming that skirt that I trashed it after a couple of wearings. 4. I sent the owl badge to a reader in Holland in exchange for Dutch snacks. Totally worth it.

These two are pending repair:

1. One of the pendant’s eyes keeps falling out. 2. The owl face fell off the ring band.

And these guys just didn’t make the cut:

What was your favorite outfit from Hidden Owl Week?

My favorite Hidden Owl outfit was...
Hidden Owl
Nest of Pearls
Keen as Mustard
Owl Interrupted
Break A Leg Charm

Break A Leg Charm

My lucky owl pin saw me through an audition tonight. Let’s be clear. I don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of getting cast. But I had a good time.

Jacket, So… (thrifted). Dress, Jovovich Hawk for Target. Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Vince Camuto. Owl pin, vintage. Bag, Mossimo.

Singing auditions make me unbelievably nervous. I’m slowly getting over my fear through careful preparation and frequent exposure. It used to be that the mere contemplation of a singing audition a few weeks in the future made me double over with nausea. Now, the nausea doesn’t kick in until I’m in the short line, waiting my turn.

Every time I audition I learn something that will help me perform better next time. Here was my (inner) monologue as I sang:

Wow, the keyboard is quiet compared to my teacher’s piano. The acoustics are funny in here. I sound different. Is it bad? Okay, concentrate on how it feels, not how it sounds. Where should I be looking? I’ll look at the director. Oh, God, he’s looking at me. I can’t stare into his eyes the whole time. I’ll look at the wall. That’s weird; who looks at a wall while they sing about love? Hmmmm…the window’s open. I wonder if people can hear me outside. Am I loud enough? Oh, yes, I’m plenty loud. Okay, remember to take a deep breath here. Wow. It’s over.

Lots to learn from!

Owl Interrupted

I apologize for the interruption in Hidden Owl Week. A nasty cold happened and I’ve been stuck in pajamas (sans owls) for a few days. I’ll make it up to you this weekend.

Cardigan, Love By Design. Tunic, Urban Behavior (swap). Leggings, Allen B. Boots, Blowfish. Scarf, Camp Foster PX “mall” (embellished by me). Earrings, self-made.

Keen as Mustard

I think owls are keen as mustard. They add a savory bit of whimsy to an outfit.

Blouse, Worthington (thrifted). Dress, Bitten (shortened). Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, White Mountain. Brooch, from Tina. Earrings, Epcot Mexico.

Oh, wait, you can’t see the owl in the lead picture. See if you can spot him below:

The owl brooch is silver- and gold-tone with clear rhinestone eyes. He’s looking a little pink above because of the reflection of the room’s bedding.

Mmmmmm...zesty!

Nest of Pearls

Today’s owl has found himself a nest of pearls. In fact, he’s nestled among five pearl necklaces (the longest one is doubled). I think he might be trying to hide from the kittens stalking the halls.

Jacket, Allen B. Dress, swap. Tights, We Love Colors. Shoes, Isaac Mizrahi for Target. Necklaces, vintage and Emily Lyn Design. Brooch, thrifted.

Hidden Owl

It seems that the owl fad has faded. I’m still a fan, though. I have a few owl pieces that I just adore. I’m going to wear one each day this week. Can you spot the hidden owl?

Vest, Forever 21. Sweater, Ann Taylor Loft. Skirt and belt, thrifted (no labels). Boots, Rampage. Bag, Nicole Lee. Rings, vintage.
