Dirty Hair

I have delicate hair and I put nasty things on it like dye and swimming pool water. I compensate by avoiding heat styling and washing it only every three days. Day three styling is often a challenge. I’ve learned to love dry shampoo and now I’ve got a new trick for concealing greasy roots: the scarf.

Scarf, some department store in the 90’s. Cardigan, Rodarte for Target. Shirt, Romeo + Juliet Couture. Belt, thrifted. Pants, Forever 21. Booties, Madden Girl. Bag, Deux Lux. Sunnies, Girl Props.

A French braid was already one of my go-to hair styles for third day hair. Kansas Couture inspired me to add a scarf to conceal my roots and add a bit of polish to the look. I usually struggle with scarves slipping off my head, but the tucked up braid helped keep it in place.

Hooray – another scarf technique to add to my repertoire.

So cute! You look great with a french braid and that scarf is the perfect addition to your fun outfit.
There's so much inspiration here, I don't know where to start.

I do the same thing with my hair, too...avoiding over washing. I haven't found a good dry shampoo though. Any suggestions?

Great outfit...love the trousers and ruffles and lace.

Love it - very vintage and still of-the-moment. Good for you for taking care of your hair too!

Kick ass french braid! Mine are always crooked.

I'm the same way with my hair - I wash it every 4 days and usually use dry shampoo on day 4. Gotta show tha hair some love! :)

I love this look. It's so glam. I wish I could get away with skipping a day of washing hair, but after years and products - no dice. Your hair looks great!

Your braid is so pretty! Usually when I'm on day three of unwashed hair i just give in and throw on a hat, but your braid and scarf are way cuter!

Your hair looks great. I have short hair that can't go up in a pony tail, and a scarf goes a long way. Also, I will put some baby powder in it the night before, and a little in the morning. It helps any grease build up in my hair.

pretty hair!! I want to try more scarves out. I love the way they look but I think they slip around a lot on my hair too! Do you do anything else that helps keep them in place?

Paisleyapron - I use salon grafix dry shampoo.

Loryn - I just tied it. I didn't use any pins or clips to keep it in place.

My hair is nearly as bright red and I use a henna based hair dye.The color is Autumn Sunset. I get it done at my local salon (all organic as is the dye which is lovely as I don't have reactions, chemical sensitivity sucks some days). In between I use Jason conditioner with Henna, after the shampoo on my hair when I wash every 3 days. This keeps it a lovely auburn color in between salon visits every 3 months.

Your French braid is lovely as are your clothing choices. My suggestion (very successful to me) is to take a Huggie's baby wipe in the red container and wash the roots by just rubbing. Your hair will dry quickily without any restyling needed. Clean and since no water used, the style is still there.
