On Trial: Rugby Ralph Lauren Dress

It’s been years since I asked your opinion on whether or not I should keep an item of clothing. I’ve been pretty reckless with the donations. I need some help deciding on this dress, though.

Jacket, Mossimo. Dress, Rugby Ralph Lauren (consignment). Tights, We Love Colors. Booties, Blondo. Sunglasses, Earthbound Trading Co. Bag, Steve Madden. Gloves, gift.

I’d simply cull it if I weren’t planning on doing some teaching and professional speaking. It’s one of the few conservative dresses in my closet.

Pros:
warm, modest, well made, tailored, a-line shape, tweed

Cons:
bulky, unflattering(?), drab, frumpy

What do you think? Here’s how I’ve worn it:

Soft and Saggy

Thanks to Everybody Everywear Pastels, I gave these pale pink pants one last chance. I am pretty sure I’ll never wear them again.

Jacket, Laundry by Shelli Segal. Cardigan, To The Max. Shirt, Charlotte Russe. Pants, Rocks & Indigo. Shoes, Steve Madden. Bag, Colini Handbags (thrifted). Earrings, Girlshop. Sunglasses, Xhilaration. Necklace, vintage and gifted.

I’m doing my best to make these pants look good in the photos, but they are soft and saggy in reality. They fit well, freshly laundered, when I first put them on, but soon lose their shape. By the end of the day, only the lower leg remains unstretched. The knees, thighs, seat, and waist sag badly. While the pants are comfortable, I suspect they’re awfully unflattering!

Still, a small part of me wonders if I’m wrong. Is the loose, baggy-except-for-the-calves look good?

I actually wore them one other time, but refused to blog it because the photos were so unflattering.

Skirt Issue

Dear Readers – I need your advice! Is this skirt a keeper?

Cardigan, Moda International. Shirt, New York and Company. Skirt, Harve Benard (thrifted). Tights, Target. Shoes, Wild Diva. Bag, Nicole Lee. Hat, Epcot Germany. Necklace, Serket Jewelry. Cuff, Urban Outfitters.

Skirt pros: pocket on the right side, (functional!) buttons down the left, black and white print, lined.

Skirt cons: a little long, straight cut, a bit big.

Is it flattering?

Stay or Go?

I haven’t put any clothing on trial since January. I get rid of plenty of items on my own, but every once in awhile I can’t decide if a piece of clothing works for me or not. That’s when I ask you all for help.

Jacket, Merona or Mossimo. Dress, handmade via swap. Shoes, Gianni Bini. Ring, Target.

I’ve had this jacket for a little over three years. I used to really like it…but lately I’m kind of “meh” about it.

What do you think? Should it stay in my rotation or not? Here’s how I’ve worn it:

That jacket...
rocks! Keep it.
stinks! Give it away.
