Another Thursday Bites the Dust

Damn, for a four-day work week, it’s passing awfully slowly. I spent the day thinking it was Friday and disappointing myself when I remembered it’s only Thursday.

Perhaps I can ease some of my malaise with a poll. I bought this horribly overpriced skirt at the Eddie Rodriguez store in Las Vegas, summer of 2004. Then, someone told me they saw a very similar skirt at Old Navy. I try to wear it as much as possible to ease the sting of paying twice as much as I should have.

Cuffed and Pushed

Jacket, Star City (thrifted). Tank, Charlotte Russe. Skirt, Eddie Rodriguez. Pumps, Delicious. Necklace, Forever 21. Studded collar (worn as a bracelet), thrifted.

I’ve only worn this jacket once before and felt like I was swimming in it. The torso fits, but the shoulders are extra big and the sleeves too long. Shortening the sleeves to 3/4 length has been on my project list for months. I still haven’t done it, but cuffing and pushing them above my elbows works in the meantime. And I actually like the strong, padded shoulders.

A Lucky How-To

This look is inspired by the May issue of Lucky: “a crisp white cotton shirt is a simple and unexpected counterpoint to an elegant, frilly skirt. To really play up your waist, add a wide leather belt.”

Unfortunately, my wide (p)leather belt broke while I was dressing myself this morning. I substituted a wide, elastic, corset-style belt and was horrified to find that I looked like a peasant girl. I tried to mitigate the costumey effect with leopard wedges. I still hated the outfit, though, because of this awful, bulgy belt. Guess I need to buy a new wide brown belt. I think I’ll spring for genuine leather next time.

Gray Friday

So….did you notice that there was a theme this week? It was GRAY week. I don’t blame you if you didn’t notice. Gray week is kind of a lame theme. It’s sort of like a black or brown theme – basic colors that I’d wear anyway. It did help me get through Fashion Show on Sunday evening, though.


I’m not afraid of mixing black and navy or black and brown, but I’ve had trouble overcoming my aversion to mixing gray and brown. It looks great in magazines and on the Wardrobe Remix girls. I think I like it on me too. I’m slowly experimenting. (I daringly mixed my gray boots with a brown purse when I visited the dentist last month.)



Oh - and this outfit was inspired by the February issue of InStyle (Fashion 101 - Belts: new ways to cinch the look).

Skirt and Tank

I bet you didn’t think I’d do it. Well, here I am, wearing my skirt as a blouse and my tank as a skirt:

I suppose that, now, I should come clean and tell you that I only put this on as a lark. This isn’t a great silhouette and the back looked a little wonky. Also, if my “blouse” hem lifted with the breeze, you could see my underpants through the tank’s armholes. If I were desperate to get one more outfit out of my capsule, I might try this option.

Skirt and Shirt

I wore the same shirt as yesterday and the skirt from Monday. No one noticed. Then, I rode a train.

This was my most worn bag in the third year of my blog. I love it still.

I thought I’d seen the last of my tall boots and velvet blazers for the season. It turns out that our warm weather was just a tease. Oh well. I’ve eased the pain by pairing one of my light, summery skirts with my winter boots and jacket.

Holy Timepiece Overkill, eh, Batman?

Here’s a little known fact: I came to Cincinnati with my dusty Biology B.S. and shiny new M.Ed. with the intent of teaching highschool science. Unfortunately, the district was in a hiring freeze and I had less than two months to find full time work so that Mike would qualify for in-state tuition at UC. The corporate world offered me a job first.

If I had become a teacher, this is the sort of outfit I can imagine myself wearing. Modest, quirky, upscale casual. Have you seen Miss Guided? I only caught two episodes, but I LOVE Becky’s outfits. I could have copied every one.

Skirt and Tank and Vest

Jane has come up with the toughest wardrobe capsule challenge yet: 5 garments for 5 days.* Well, maybe it isn’t SO tough because the rules also allow for unlimited accessories, including shoes.

To keep things simple, I’ll tell you which of the five items I’m wearing each day in the title.

*Okay – so I misread the rules. The challenge is 6/4 – 6/11. That’s 8 days. But I’m sticking with 5. Even that is tough.

Cooler

After some intense storms last night, it is much cooler today. Cool enough to warrant a wrap this morning. As my office is always freezing, regardless of the weather outside, I continued to wear it for the work day. It came in handy once more for the frigid bus ride home. I love wrapping myself in this sumptuous “blanky.” It’s perfect for a nap on the way home.

Crescent Moon

Today’s outfit is pretty similar to one I wore six weeks ago: rust, brown, and white polka dots on a navy background. And those mustard pumps.

Step right up, Ladies and Gentlemen! See the freakishly self-obsessed woman who photographs herself Every Single Day! Sit back and enjoy as she poses for photo after photo. Be amazed at the depths of her Egomania! Watch as she abandons Family, Friends, Career, and Duty to Her Country in favor of the False God of Fashion.

Enough of that nonsense. Let’s get down to the details.

I’m pleased that false flower corsages are making a comeback.
There is something wonderfully girly and whimsical about them.


I was inspired by the latest In Style magazine to wrap one of my necklaces around my wrist as a bracelet.
I like the way it adds a bit more visual impact to my small watch.

Skirt and Tank

I wore my last two items of clothing properly for the final day of the Summer Wardrobe Capsule Challenge. Accessories were “free” and I’m continually amazed at how a few large accessories (scarf and boots) can totally change the look of garments I wore earlier in the week.
