This dress actually belongs to one of the theater groups I work with. I was looking for poufy prom dresses (for MacBeth’s witches) and found this in the dress rack. As is my habit whenever I find a gem that might fit me among the costumes, I pulled it on over my clothing. One look at the rear view in the mirror, and I was sold.
I was going for a sort of Holly Golightly look with the French twist and pearls. At the wedding, I was told that I resembled the subject of a John Singer Sargent painting. What do you think?

Funny thing is, I was at a fancy dress charity showing of Breakfast at Tiffany's at the local independent cinema on Saturday night! I love coincidences like that!

Oh my gosh, this is so fab! You look amazing! Audrey as Holly Golightly is only my favourite version of Audrey (and "Breakfast at Tiffany's" is my favourite movie). I love this look!
Would you dare to wear a big hat with it? A little glove? I would do a hat, definitely.
You look beautiful! And the necklace is amazing.

Cal - they told me I could keep the dress!
Sheila - if it had been a little cooler, I have some fabulous, elbow-length, ruched velvet gloves I would have worn with it. However, the weather was warm enough that I didn't even need a coat.
All - thanks for the compliments! I had a great time in this dress.
you look lovely and elegant. Love the back!
lovely!
How did you do your hair? I LOVE it!
rbensgirl - I just did my lazy girl's updo (http://whatiwore2day.blogspot.com/2008/06/lazy-girls-updo.html) but tucked the ends under the roll and secured with bobby pins instead of a stick. Then, I added a hair ormanament.
