Stir It Up

I’m a day late with my Everybody Everywear pattern mix. I hope it was worth the wait!

Dresses, Jovovich Hawk for Target (on top) and London Times (underneath). Shoes, Gianni Bini. Earrings, Nine West. Bag, Liz Claiborne (gift).

I don't think the girl on the right (above) likes pattern mixing.

I may have mixed a pattern a time or two before. These are some of my favorites (and boldest):

My pattern mixing has gotten progressively wilder and more frequent, but my approach has remained the same.

I love your style, and even though I'd never wear mixed patterns (there must be something wrong with me, right?), I think this looks amazing!

A couple of questions:

When you layer dresses, don't you get super-hot, especially in this weather?

Do you ever wear slacks?

Really enjoying your blog!

Rose - it's only supposed to get to the low to mid-80s today, so we'll see if I cook! Both of these dresses are very lightweight and thin, so I'm hoping I won't be too hot.

I almost never wear slacks. They just don't suit my body type. I have wide hips and, what I refer to as, a "long bottom." It's hard for me to get a good and flattering fit.

Love the polka dots in this outfit! And I love the way you compiled some pattern mixing outfits for us to peruse.

I absolutely love when people layer dresses. I'm crazy about that polka dot one; I'd wear it anyday.

I knew I wasn't the only one waiting to see what you'd come up with! Re: your past looks, I'm crazy about that dog portrait skirt and anything you wear with it, especially the striped top and the blue blouse. Although I admit I'm also drawn to those outfits because of your Miz Mooz boots! (I wish so hard they made them in larger calf sizes.)

Everyone knows YOU are the Queen of pattern mixing, hands down!
I think I saw a good idea for the dreaded white lace skirt(maybe)....
Check out Keiko Lynn's outfit today!
It could work :)
We might have to take out the elastic and just belt it to flatten it? Or not...........

I think my favorite is the strapless plaid dress with the striped turtle neck and purple booties. That is one keen outfit!

Love your blog, and your so in shape, but this outfit adds about 15lbs to you. I do like the patterns together though.

Ahh... I saw this dress at Target and could not figure out how to make it work for me so I left it on the rack. I never even considered layering it like you did here. Such a great idea. - Katy

I almost bought that dress from Target! It looks great layered over the other dress, as do all of your other pattern-mixing masterpieces. I think my favorite is the one in the bottom righthand corner because I like the skirt so much :)

I am the 90th person to say you are amazing at mixing patterns! I'm so happy that EBEW did this challenge- mixing patterns is something that I've never done but seeing looks like yours have given me some bravery to just try it. I'm extra appreciative that you included a few outfits for me to reference- I particularly love the outfit with the purple dress and yellow cardigan. I think it looks so good to put together colors that are opposites on the color wheel, but I never know how to do it unless I'm just adding it in a shoe or something.
