In the Now

Sometimes I wonder if I’m “doing” San Francisco right. My leisure trips there always turn into aimless wandering, eating, and drinking. The city makes me feel present. I am so satisfied with each moment that I fail to have any sort of direction to my day. When it’s over, I have a hard time remembering what I did; my recollection is a blur of sights and tastes and smells. As a usually very productive person, I have a hard time justifying an entire day given over to the senses. But I think that’s just the sort of reset I need, especially as I spent the next two days preparing for an important presentation.

Cut Off the Sleeves

I love the look of a collared shirt under a dress, but sometimes the sleeves just don’t play nicely. I had the idea to thrift a shirt, cut off the sleeves, and use it for interest, layered under my dresses. Et . . . voila!

Shirt, Banana Republic (thrifted and altered). Dress, swap. Shoes, Seychelles. Sunglasses, Meow Meow. Earrings, Claire’s. Belt, thrifted. Bag, Nine West.

I have lots of great ideas. Like signing up for BarkBox. The last box contained Jasper’s new favorite toy: a stuffed, squeaky flying saucer.

Manhattan Beach

I haven’t yet gotten the chance to show off my leather backpack. It’s tooled leather and perfect for carrying a laptop, ipad, camera, and other miscellaenous electronics on the plane.

Blazer (below), Diane von Furstenberg (consignment). Dress, Parker. Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Steve Madden. Scarf (below), gift. Backpack, no label. (I bought it at an airport.)

After removing the heavier items, it served me well for a few hours of sightseeing in Manhattan Beach before I had to layer and corporate up for an afternoon of business training.

The beach was so tempting and the conference room was so cold. But I’m nothing if not responsible. (Except for the hideous amount I paid for a blazer, not pictured, while shopping at said beach!)

Ramblin'

It was a fine morning for a river ramble with Jasper. We were both glad of a puppy break! (So I guess we would have been happy with gray drizzle, instead of crisp sunshine, as long as we were out of the house and moving. But the fair weather makes for better pictures.)

Sweater, Forever 21. Dress, Jams World (thrifted). Boots, Matisse. Earring’s, Rain’s Embellishments. Sunglasses and backpack, Target.
