R&R

I took the day off work for a little rest and relaxation. Beefy and I went out to a late breakfast, attended an Auction by Maggie, ate a late lunch at The Public House, and saw The Avengers.

Jacket, Forever 21 (overdyed). Crochet top, Imaginary Voyage. Dress, Roundy Bay (thrifted). Belt, thrifted. Sandals, Lela Rose for Payless. Bag, vintage. Earrings, self-made.

When I lived in Okinawa, I loved to attend the Phai’s House of Jade auctions on base. I find bidding to be a bit thrilling and the people watching is always good. It was even better at Auctions by Maggie. Today was my first experience with bidding on first “choice” of items in a group. I picked up a ring, bracelet, and brooch through choice bids. I also bid on, and won, a tooled leather bag. This one is ostrich!

Overall, it was a good day-after-a-marathon: lots of sitting and eating. I’m well on the road to recovery from the race.

Sporty Sunday: My Second Full Pig

I went for a little jog this morning. For 26.2 miles. It only took me 4 hours and 45 minutes.

Kissing my medal

I’ll write more next week about how I think Run Less, Run Faster impacted my performance. Until then, I leave you with a quote from an “inspirational” sign near mile 18 of the marathon route:

Why couldn't Philippides have died right here?

Sporty Sunday is a recurring feature in which I share my fitness routine and offer and solicit advice. While this content might seem a little out of place in an outfit diary, a healthy, strong body is the foundation of my wardrobe. I hope to inspire my readers to be fit as well as stylish!

Free Comics

The comic store was giving away free comics, but we showed up for the mural. It’s free every day!

Look for Me

This is what I’ll be wearing tomorrow morning, as I run the full Flying Pig Marathon for the second time. If you are watching the race, I’d love it if you said, “Go, Kasmira!” when I fly on by.

Yup, I’m sure I’ll be grinning and levitating the entire 26.2 miles

Yours Truly

This outfit was inspired by Kerry of Yours Truly, x. She wore her ensemble on holiday in Lagos. I wore mine to the office on a Friday.

Shirt, Jones New York (thrifted). Jeans, Gap. Shoes, Two Lips. Belt and scarf, thrifted. Bracelets, Epcot Morocco. Necklace, vintage. Bag, Vieta.

My inspiration:

We’re both wearing 3/4-sleeve, black and white striped tops, white bottoms, red shoes, red-accented scarves in our hair, and red lipstick. Sure, she’s at the Portuguese seaside and I’m in Newport, Kentucky (after lunch at Pompilio’s), but we’ve both got the same breezy spirit.

Best with a Button-front

This skirt is best paired with a button-front shirt or something else structured (like a vest or a jacket). The pairing is the sartorial equivalent of the straight man and the funny man. Good cop, bad cop. Yin and yang. You get it.

Shirt, Old Navy. Skirt, Leslie Faye (thrifted). Belt, Banana Republic. Shoes, Lela Rose for Payless. Bag, Vieta. Bracelets, Target and Claire’s. Necklace, vintage.

Monsoon

It was just starting to rain when we took these photos in the Reading Garden. The downpour strengthened to a monsoon by the time Colette and I left the library to head to City Cellars’ Tuesday wine tasting. As we walked, we joked about being part of a wet sari scene in a Bollywood film. (My skirt is Thai, not Indian, but the pattern is similar to one you might see on a sari.)

Jacket, Forever 21. Shirt, Old Navy. Skirt, Thailand. Bag, knockoff D&G (thrifted). Tassel pendant, Epcot Morocco. Arrowhead pendants, thrifted. Bracelets, Deb, Claire's, and Target. Shoes, NY & Co.

When we left City Cellars, the storm had intensified. Despite large umbrellas, we were quickly soaked from the thigh down. (Wading through ankle deep water along the curb didn’t help.) We developed Medusa hair. Worst of all, the paper bag holding my wine purchase lost integrity and a bottle of pinot noir smashed to the sidewalk. I was a sad sight, grieving over my fast-diluting wine in a wet, clinging skirt and frizzy hair in the driving rain.

The women in the wet sari scenes always seem to be delighted by the experience, but they are totally faking it.
